2020 / 2021 Olympic Cycling Racing Discussion

I read that was a reason. Obviously it would have likely rewarded the multi-rider / pro teams, but as we saw with the men, that wasn’t the case, so it looks like a poor argument in hindsight.

It certainly is not because they can’t do it.

NBC Sports app has the replay if you can sign in with a provider. I used the Hulu + Live TV free trial and signed in to NBC Sports with those credentials.

GCN Race Pass has the full replay. You need to have an Internet connection from somewhere licensed for the race though, like the UK.

Youtube TV has them all available. Pretty sure it has a free trial available. Only downside for me so far is no medal ceremonies after the races as they all cut away to whatever my local station cut to.

Sorry, but the Successful athletes podcast only features athletes with massive FTP gains (even though “fTp IsN’T eVerYtHiNg”)

…and who knows if she actually used TR or followed any TR plan. She was on the forum but might not really be a TR athlete.

All power to her though - loved watching that race and she deserves every bit of praise coming her way. I’m sorry but in a race with no comms etc its on the teams and athletes to keep an eye on whats going on and who’s been caught etc - the Dutch moaning is just sour grapes as many have said. Better luck next time…

Based on his stories, I’m pretty sure Kolie Moore coaches her, or at least consults.

So looks like MvdP ate crap when they took away a ramp from what they were practicing on. Ouch.

Ganna hasn’t raced in a bit - excited to see that big beast go again. Is he doing any track? Anyone know?

Yes in the team pursuit afaik

Down to do the pursuit isn’t he? I thought there was some rule about riders not being able to do just the TT - but I don’t know for sure.

Bro is doing 40k and 4k - talk about both ends

I’m not sure I even want to know his power for the 4k. It’s too damn scary.

I think its that there are only so many slots per country you can’t have someone do TT and not the RR, just not that valuable for the spot

yes something like this. I don’t fully understand it. A nation can have a maximum of 5 RR spots and 2 TT spots. Someone who qualified for the TT can also take part in the RR, provided the team doesn’t exceed 5 riders. I thought it can only be 5 riders total, but apparently that’s not the case. Here is the relevant UCI memo:
Maybe Ganna gets an extra spot because he is world champion? Not sure though.

interesting this is specifically road…

I don’t know the rules - but it’s not just road - e.g., Yoeri Havik (track rider doing the Madison) started the road race for Netherlands and DNFd straight away.

Not sure if this was to make up numbers for the Netherlands team on the road (they have plenty of other riders who could have been more useful) or to enable him to ride his track event.

As far as I know Track and road are completely separate disciplines. TT and the road race are just different events of the same discipline (Road cycling).

Anyone catch the XCO today? Pretty bummed we didn’t get to see MVDP and Pidcock duel it out, MVDP’s crash looked brutal.

I have to say, Dutch cycling seems pretty disorganized and unprepared for this olumpics. First the women’s race was pretty much a disaster for them. And now this? MVDP says he didn’t know the training ramp wouldn’t be there, hence the bad fall. But all the other athlete’s knew, and one even claims he specifically told MVDP it wouldn’t be there.

Replay today. I watched it live and it was a good race. I’m calling BS on MVDP not knowing. Sounds like an excuse for being a clear favorite for gold but having a mental lapse in the moment on the biggest stage in front of the world. IMO there’s no way he didn’t know, but he may have preferred and practiced rolling the feature only to later be told the ramp wasn’t gonna be there. So in the moment and intensity of the race it was an oversite.
