2021 UCI XC World Cup and World Championships (Spoilers) - including Marathon World Championships

Regarding Pidcock, given his nuts ride on Sunday, he is qualified for the short track this week. Meaning he’s fighting for a first or second row start this weekend. Things are gonna get spicy :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Agreed.

Though I’m not sure Nove Mesto will suit him as much, I think he’ll definitely be a big factor.

The rest of the guys will be watching closely I think.

The Albstadt race was around 1h15m - not much longer than a typical CX race, done at similar intensity … and he’s quite used to racing 2 CX races in the same weekend. And he’s only 21. So no, recovery won’t be an issue.

Because he is 21 years old, he’s a phenom, and he just started racing MTB last year. If you’re an XCO MTB fan why wouldn’t you follow him?

Hadn’t even realised until you wrote this and I Googled it that he was aiming for MTB at Tokyo and not road (though says he may race road as well!). Crazy the way some of these guys now just seem to be able to switch between so many different disciplines and still be competitive.

It was just a honest question. I started seeing his name a lot in social media but just hadn’t looked him up.

That’s all.

He did this in 2019. He let Avancini lead 4 laps while he coasted in 2nd/3rd, then busted into first at the end. Only place it did not work out for him was Snowshoe where Fluckiger? just rode away from the field.

If you were an avid cycling fan following CX and Road racing you’d know Tom’s name. He’s only recently dipped his toes into XC MTB which makes his performance on Sunday even more remarkable.

Although to be fair he has been dominating the junior XC scene as well as e-MTB competitions, showing that his skills have been developing for years

Because he comes off as a wanker.

Based on what? I’m not even a Pidcock fan (yes he is an awesome talent, but I root for others) and I think he comes off like a pretty solid dude. He seems pretty likeable in his interviews from this past race weekend.

(also just an awesome video recap, mostly not Pidcock related at all)

Just don’t like his attitude in interviews I’ve seen and finish line antics. I’m not one that likes the superman pose, pistolero (contador), etc. etc. when crossing the finish line. Comes off arrogant. I much prefer the “Yess!!” I won reaction and prefer the saying, “act like you been there before” when scoring a touch down in American football. Just personal preference, but to me he comes off like an arrogant wanker. Just my two cents.

I don’t really care what folks do as they cross the finish line.

What I like about Pidcock is that he could have stayed in U23 for CX and XC MTB for 2 more years and won everything in sight … but he didn’t, he stepped up to elite to see how good he was against van der Poel and van Aert.

Don’t worry he’s not arrogant. He’s a pretty humble guy actually. Not that I know him personally but I’ve seen him at National races and watched his career blossom.
He’s a phenom because he tried cx and became world champion within a couple of years then backed it up two years later with another dominant win. he tried a national series crit race and rode off the front of the peloton in the first 10mins ‘by accident’
I think from memory he’s won the junior Paris Roubaix, and this season he beat MVDP in a World Cup cx. Do you know how rare that is?

Nove Mesto is looking wet!

Watch for it to suit Pidcock even more.

Anyone know if the forecast for the weekend/XCO on Sunday is also wet?

Wet and Wild weekend ahead

Don’t think I’ve seen this venue raced in the wet. Should be entertaining.

It gets very technical. Last year there were a lot of riders that lost a wheel over roots etc, and many (almost all the women’s field) had to run/push the uphill rocky climb.

I like Pidcock for wanting to try everything but surely the conditions have the favour Nino and the MTB’s.
