It would be nice. I put my run and swim into the TR calendar, but they are different than the stock run and swim workouts in the TR Tri plans. So, I have to delete all the stock runs and swims and then add my own back in.
Not a huge deal, but if there was a way to avoid this it’d be nice.
+1 for duathlon and dropping swims. Also should be option to specify road or off-road tri; only work would be to choose XCM oriented plan instead of road ITT.
+1 for more flexibility here. I’m in much better shape right now for cycling than running or swimming, and I’m just getting into thinking about triathlons, so I’m trying to keep the same bike training regimen as TR would give me for a Gran Fondo (what I’ve already been doing so far) but then add in some running/swimming.
Ideally, the TR tri plan would let me specify that I’m a beginner swimmer, beginner runner, but intermediate cyclist, or somehow let me tell Plan Builder that my bike workouts should be much harder than it thinks, while my swims and runs should be much easier than it thinks.
most of the swim and run stuff is based on rate of perceived exhaustion. So you could use say the mid volume plan, do as much volume but it’s going to be at “your relative” pace.
A lot of people get a separate running or swimming training plan and make it work that way
With so many events being canceled and not being able to do scheduled swim workouts, being able to have them not populated right now would be appreciated. It is always a bit of a bummer to have 3+ uncompleted workouts showing on the calendar or to have to manually delete so many workouts.
Hey @IvyAudrain, any update on if this feature is in the works? This feature is even more valuable/annoyance removing with beta AT rolled out. Every time I skip a TR prescribed swim (3-4x per week) I get prompted to adapt my next 10-15 swim workouts to remove a few minutes. There really should be a way to just say “I don’t want swim workouts.”
Thanks for the bump! I’ll check in with the team again about putting this on the roadmap. As you can imagine, refining Adaptive Training is a high priority at the moment, but hopefully the team has bandwidth for some of these requests shortly. Cheers!
Hello, Ivy. I was going to post a thread about this and I see there are a lot of people asking for this already, so I thought I’d ask you first. I’ve been wanting cycling workouts only for my tri training, and now more so with adaptive training, I don’t want TR recommending changes to my swim/run workouts when I already follow my own and am just trying to ignore TR’s swim/run workouts. In the past I’ve gone through and deleted all swim/run workouts which seemed like an unnecessary use of my time if this request can be handled. I’d think it would be as simple as, when you choose a tri program, there would be an option that says “Have TR provide your swim, bike and run workouts for this triathlon plan” and another options that says “Have TR provide only your bike workouts for this triathlon plan”. thanks!
I totally hear you on that, along with receiving adaptations that could result from that for future swim/runs that you wont do. I get it!
Passing this along to the team for consideration. Thank you for the input!
It’s been 4 years and this along with porting over swim and run workouts from Garmin or Strava is still not done. I don’t think it will ever get done. My theory is that as part of TP allowing workouts to be done on TR, TR had to stop improving the calendar.
The aforementioned advice still applies: Adaptive Training is the developer’s highest priority at the moment.
Sorry that I dont have better news, I know this seems ‘simple’ or like an easy fix and I definitely can understand why you’re frustrated it hasnt had movement yet.
To speak to features like this moving up on the roadmap, it’s not that the team doesn’t these features that seem ‘easier’ aren’t important or useful, we definitely agree that it is!
We just have to prioritize updates that are the most effective at helping the greatest number of athletes possible get faster in the immediate future (such as incorporating unstructured rides into Adaptive Training, and refining Adaptive Training as a whole).
This podcast excerpt from Nate and Jon reiterates our messaging about how the timeline of feature requests work, its definitely worth a listen.
Just a heads up: That feature release Nate is referring to is not related to this current thread about TR building tri plans without run/swim workouts. It IS sick though! We’re excited.
