Aero Carbon Handlebar with Flare

Hi all,

I’m looking for a new carbon aero handlebar for my Specialized Crux. I’m trying to find an handlebar with a good amount of flare at the drop (8-15 degrees) to compensate for a narrower top. Excluding any Chinese handlebar, I’ve only seen Enve Aero in-route and Pro Vibe Aero Carbon that would fit my flare criteria. They are both very expensive though so any other less expensive option I should consider?

Thanks!

I went with a 40cm 3T Aeroghiaia which I got on a great sale, and love it. I got the integrated version even though I don’t have integrated cables, works fine.

Are you looking for aero for aero or aero for flat place to put your hands?

I have the Easton EC90 AX bars they are 16 degree flare, I didn’t want any more than that. But the are not meant to be aero, just have flattened off top sections for ergonomics. Never thought I’d be like I love these handlebars for any bars, but I do.

I haven’t tried a ton of handlebars but the Enve aero ones are my favorite from everything I’ve ridden. The tops work well with or without tape and support Enve’s custom clamp for aero bars when I need them.

Just remember they’re measured drop to drop and not top to top.

I already run the EC70 AX bars and would prefer something actually aero with flatter tops.

I have a set of Enve SES in-route aero handlebars coming for my current build. They are the only model in their aero lineup that also allows clip on aero bars (enve clip ons).

I tried them during my fit (37 cm top, 42 cm bottom) and they felt fantastic. Should feel way better than my current bars at 42 cm at the hoods, which feel like driving a school bus when I come off my aero bars lol.

Good to know. I tend to prefer a slightly flat spot on the drops for my hands, but find the Lauf Smoothie more comfortable that my Enve AR SES. If Lauf made an aero version I’d get it in a heartbeat for my road bike. I’m also intrigued by the Zipp SL80 Race but have some concerns about the spots for th wireless blips if they aren’t installed.

I have a set of the Enve Aero In-route Handlebars, Aero In Route Stem, and the Clip-on Aero Bars that I’m just setting up now. The tops are definitely wider / broader than the Enve AR SES, and they have flare that the AR SES don’t.

You can take a look at Ascent Aeroo bars. AEROO Long Reach – Ascent Bikes

Lauf makes a flat top road: Smoothie Road - Lauf Cycles - gravel bikes, mountain bikes and road bikes

Also on the Sl80 Race: you can’t tell on the spots for the blips underneath. So no big deal for the spots on the drops they actually come with little plastic pieces to put in place and wrap up with bar tape if you don’t use the blips.

OneByEsu has one quite flared semi?aero model. Alexscycle Japan stocks it.

@tiptoppenguin Thanks! Looks like the Road Smoothie has no flare, though. :frowning: I prefer a few degrees, like the Enve AR SES. Glad to hear that the SL80 Race comes with plastic covers to fill the spaces for the blips. Gotta find an SL80 Race at a LBS so I can feel it out before dropping another couple hunder dollars on a handlebar.

My other options would be to give the Yoeleo H21 integrated cockpit a try. I don’t have any spacers beside the round top cap but I feel like it would look strange with the square stem.

What is the point of the AR bar and its tiny flat top section? Just curious? I tried it on a test bike once and hated it. Felt like I was holding a twig when I was on the tops. Granted I have very large hands but I just don’t see how that is a good all round bar. I love my Enve SES Aero bar however

Good point altough I never ride on the top during a gravel race, only hoods or drops therefore this ain’t an issue for me.

Never? I use them on climbs and love using them as forearm rests on flat stretches!

Ok you got me there I do rest my forearms on the tops every now and then, I just don’t use them when climbing though.

I don’t know if it is the “point” of the smaller flat section, but IME, it makes the bar significantly more comfortable. Just enough flex vs. a more traditional aero bar, which can be overly stiff.

I absolutely love my AR bars…for Unbound this year, I was initially planning on running aerobars, so I swapped over to an alloy bar that I could use with clip-ons. Once in Emporia, I decided against the aerobars so therefore swapped back to the AR bars before race day. Once of the best pre-race decisions I ever made. WAY more comfortable.
