All things Traka 560 (Tires first!)

A couple of things I am starting to think about is night temperature at elevation. Not sure what the best way to figure out what these sorts of temps will be. I am guessing if I ride this in one go the mountainous part of the race would be through the night… Any ideas welcome

Max elevation is supposed to be 2000m right?

Also not helpful that the route is only published a few days before the race whereas all the other courses are published already. I would like to plan resupplies etc.

Seems like they purposefully want to prevent us from some planning.

@oldandfast, you got any further idea of tyres youre gonna use?!

Hey Guys

I was inspired by this thread to make a video about prepping for the TRAKA!
Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pm_sT4UTKEc&ab_channel=HarryAshman

Leaving a comment and liking the video would help me a lot! Even sharing with friends. Keen to hear what you guys think.

Great stuff Harry!

I did a gravel race this weekend where the start was similair to how you described the start of traka - 190 bpm out the gate! Safe to say i wont be doing that on the day.

Thanks. However it seems that most of the variation in placing is due to sleep depravation skills/natural proclivities.

If you divide the distance/climbing in 3 days you get:

3 x 115 miles with 20000ft climbing

Which is just VERY VERY intimidating.

Who has done something like this!?

My hardest 2 day has been 2 x 105 miles with 11000k climbing

I think I might be over in my head on this one :face_with_spiral_eyes:

So they published this course profile on Instagram last night. I have not studied it much but it looks like it’s about 200km in the mountains and then essentially the 360km course from last year . The 360km course has 5000 odd meters of climbing meaning there is 5000+ meters in the first 200km in the mountains.

At some point I will roughly link up all the locations from the profile above on Strava to get a general idea of the course and directions of travel, which I can post here.

Ok, this is wayyy easier than what I was thinking. 33k feet of climbing is reasonable now.

It’ll be roughly like this:

thought id report back on some research and development…!

Been using the challenge getaway pro hltr 45mm on my revolt for the last 3-4 months. Done short rough races and some long rides 250km. Only had one slash that I think was just an unlucky rock strike, had to use 2x dynaplugs to repair.

Totally agree with you @Harry_Ashman, bigger is better.

Unfortunately though they are now sold out everywhere in Australia, so im thinking of changing to Tufo Thundero HD - 48 in the front 44 in the rear.

Wondering if I should invest in some inserts know for added piece of mind for mogging downhill!

The key issue is not the width but the thread, given the crazy amount of pavement.

Admittedly im riding 360km!

Wondering what you two will be doing for a mid ride re-lube?

Little bottles of squirt

This event got completely screwed by the heavy rain in the area. Sadly

Shall be an interesting day for sure, hopefully not too muddy?!

Have you seen the pics?..…it’s just going to be a miserable ride. And now the most scenic part was taken out.

And it’s……

C A N C E L L E D !!!
