Any UK riders having to quarantine?

Government specifically said not to do a shop on the way back home, which is inconvenient, but not the end of the world.

UHT milk and cereal, and tomato pasta today, so not really a hardship.

However, my daughter tripped in the garden, knocked herself out, and I had to take her to emergency for a head injury checkup, in the covid high risk emergency ward…

The quarantine rules are in place to help stop a global pandemic. Seriously. Have a word with yourself.

We have friends from Luxembourg who were holidaying in France last week, went to the Fat Duck in Bray a few days ago and are now holidaying in Scotland. Completely oblivious to the self isolation rules. No checks at the tunnel either.

I’m doing my second week now. I was cycling around Annecy. The lake area + the city were a disaster from a prevention perspective. Although masks were obligatory indoors, distancing was non-existent and there were even some beach parties (albeit in private beach clubs). Back in Lyon, it was pretty much the same.

It’s kind of funny but the thing that convinced me to stick religiously to the quarantine (in addition to the ehem £3200 fine threat) was how I found out that I got a couple of live mosquitoes in my luggage after I returned to Lyon from Annecy (the insects situation in Annecy is another story). Now imagine the risk of carrying the virus, which I can’t even see.

I’m here in Calpe, Spain. The town is pretty good at observing the mask rule, only the beach and restaurants are except. Calpe is a sensible town compared to Benidorm further down the coast.
The restaurant business is dire, closed for 3 months , then losing money now as at best they have to observe a 1.5m rule between adjacent tables, but the tourists have stayed away. I’ve seen small groups of cyclists, thankfully not having to wear a mask, but I carry one just in case I stop.
Will stay in for 2 weeks when we get home, will need a recovery week in any case. It’s too hot to put any efforts above z3 so riding is under control.
Please don’t have a go at the UK riders who return home and have to go out. We are the intelligent end of the population, looking after ourselves and our loved ones. It’s the other end of the spectrum that causes the problems.

Sorry to hear that, I hope she is ok.

But you weren’t in the high risk Covid ward. There will have been respiratory or non respiratory segregation in the main ED and any wards with Covid-19 patients in them will be red flagged as full PPE areas.

Fair enough, we weren’t in the Covid intensive care ward, but the Emergency was divided into red and green wards out Southampton General, so we were sent through to the red ward and isolated in our own room.

Same ward as the people who come for emergency reasons that are showing covid like symptoms like coughing, high temperature etc, I guess?

Daughter is fine, had a reflex anoxic seizure (which isn’t as bad as it sounds), quite common in toddlers in high pain/stress situations, and relatively harmless I’m told. In and out in 4 hours.

For those who have a co-op near by - they deliver same day via Deliveroo!

This is a weird kind of exceptionalism. The virus doesn’t care how clever anyone thinks they are.

Again, these rules are in place to help protect public health. They stop working when people break them.

Yeah, unfortunately everyone thinks they are a special case and it’s others that are the problem. I’m as guilty of this as the next person. That’s why laws have to be clear, strict and enforced.
Oh dear!

I paid a deposit and booked flights for a training camp in Spain while the “air corridor” was open. Now if I go I’ll have no insurance and quarantine will mean missing a race I’ve been training for and that I was lucky to get into. If I stay home I’ll lose my deposit and my friend running the camp will lose income (possibly the whole camp, if numbers get too low). Guess I’ll just have to suck it up. Knowing about the sunk cost fallacy doesn’t do much to alleviate the frustration of it

There is insurance for Spain , Battleface insurance which even includes covid cover.

Just wondering how they enforce this. Do you have to wear a wear a tracking band?
Not planning to go til training in Tenerife in March 2021.
My attitude is just to be sensible and stick to social distancing etc. No reason not to go out training , if you’re on your own ,and no snot rockets

Nope. Couple of phone calls and then a visit. No idea of the % of people they call/visit, but suspect not many.

Phew!

I’ve not yet had a text/phone call checking my whereabouts, though I have heard of people who have been missed called a couple of times on an unrecognised number and received some texts, and then got a visit from the police.
Has to be a random sample can’t really fit in visits for 100-200k estimated overseas travellers to Spain and France.

Other countries have more sophisticated apps/contact tracing, which is pretty much non existing here.

Big bother is watching.

Not that intelligent posting on a public forum.

The rules are the rules, it is people that think (oxymoron) that they are superior that are the problem.

My post is not aimed at any indiviual,

People that don’t understand the rules fair enough, but if you really are intelligent enough to understand follow the rules.

If I found a neighbour breaking the rules I would / will report them. I would also consider doing the same for anyone on social media if I had evidence. You don’t get to roll the dice and put other people lives in your hands because you chose to not obey the rules, no matter how small or large the risk is, no matter if you agree or not with the rules.

The chance of getting caught should have nothing to do with it. Shame on anyone thinking this is okay

I will stay in and observe the quarantine. My comment re intelligent end was aimed at prevention , keeping social distancing, away from crowds and wearing masks . There are too many who have no regard for their own or other peoples health , but suspect they also neglect their bodies in respect to exercise or healthy eating.
