Beat up, depressed, and constantly having setbacks-need some advice and encouragement

One of my favorite sports psychology books is ‘On Top of Your Game’ by Carrie Cheadle. I’m not injured at the moment, but just started reading another book by her called ‘Rebound.’ Its aimed at people experiencing and recovering from injuries and I am enjoying it so far. Might be worth investigating. I’m hoping it will prepare me in advance if/when something happens.

No specific advise @wasket just hang in there. Take it slow. Let the body heal 1st then training load 2nd. You’ll be back.

Quick update. I started over with my training plan this week doing the sweet spot base. I brought my TT bike and put it on my trainer so that I don’t have to put pressure on my hand. It also has double duty of training my body and muscles for my specific events, which are 40K time trials. The hand is feeling good while I do those efforts, so I’m going to keep moving forward. Bit on the lower body. Definitely feeling that since it’s been so long! I can tell my fitness is down, but I am happy that I did my workout on the time trial bike just fine, which means my TT position doesn’t sacrifice too much power since I was able to hit all my targets without problem. So I will keep everyone posted, but thank you all for the support and tips. I appreciate it!

Another quick update for anyone who was interested.
Just finished my second full week of training in Base I. Didn’t sleep great last night, so spun easy today, but yesterday was my hardest ride (and longest) in more than 2 months. But I feel like I aced it, and I’m really happy about it. I did the Mont Ventoux in Zwift and managed a 67/68 minute time to the top. But, crucially, I had a negative split and absolutely nailed my pacing despite not doing anything that long since October, and not using erg mode. And best of all, it was on my TT bike in a very aero position.
I’ve got a long way to go, but Masters Nats TT isn’t until August, so I’ve got time.
Thanks again for the support.

Read about rural Africa or India or Oklahoma for that matter. Sounds like “shot happens.” I’ve had all sorts of medical issues although it does sound like you had a string of bad ones.
Unless you can’t afford food and shelter and have a meth habit ,I vote to remember what you DO have.

Your plan is to “Keep Buggering On!!” A fav quote of Winston Churchill that the Mrs uses when things suck. It WILL get better, just KBO!!! :grinning::grinning:

I know I’ve been posting a lot and other threads, but I wanted to give a little update here.
Yesterday I had another appointment with the dermatologist. I had to have another major round of cauterizing my thumb. I asked him exactly what I have and he said it is pyogenic granuloma, for anyone who knows medical stuff.
He confirmed that mine was caused by trauma, likely from trying to change really stubborn tires on my bike lol. Part of what makes mine so bad is that it is in the inner joint of my thumb, and the blood vessel is huge. Most of them are easy to treat, but he said mine is one of the worst he’s seen and will require several treatments total.
So today I am off the bike with my thumb wrapped up. However, this week is a recovery week and I plan on being back to normal training next week. My progress over the first two blocks has been pretty good, and on Saturday I was able to ride my actual FTP for a full hour. I did post that in a couple other threads, but I was really happy to be able to do that!
I lost quite a bit more blood yesterday when he was treating it, but overall I’m glad things are getting back on track and I like the overall timing of my season now. Getting started later was kind of a blessing in disguise, and I’m going to be timing my training and races just as the weather gets good outside LOL.
I’m in pain today and can’t really use my hand, but I definitely am optimistic and proud of the training I’ve been able to do. Thanks again for the support I’ve had!

Glad things are improving…sounds like it is a pretty nasty and persistent injury. Your attitude seems to have improved significantly, which is great!!

For future reference, I applied the “Blur” option that is better than the long scroll option you employed. People just need to click on the image to see it, or scroll past as they see fit.

Cool! Is there an easy way for me to do that in the future? Or is that an admin thing
