I’ve got a Revolt that I run in the long setting, and it fit 700x50c Maxxis Ramblers with plenty of room. Also rode them in some thick mud and didn’t have any issues with it rubbing against the stays or anything.
For next year, I’m going to try 2.1" Thunder Burts and don’t have any concerns about clearance.
I rode a SL6 for a couple years, it was great on dirt but felt a little “lazy” on the road and not super nimble on trail. I like my Crux 10x more, but the Checkpoint was reliable and very “point and shoot”. The Crux takes some work on chunky terrain.
I have the Revolt generation that was right before the small changes made this year. I run 44’s and there is tons of room. No one with a newer revolt should be struggling with 45’s.
And I have the one (2021) before your’s and I am pretty sure a 50 will ft in the fork and a 47 in the rear would work. Maybe a bit tight for wet/mud conditions but fine for dry conditions.
Frame a little heavy (1150ish in a medium, although this is similar to e.g. a Revolt), but aero and will just about fit thunder burts (if not racekings). Better geometry as well (Revolts etc have this absurdly high stack).
I think they’d probably call it their all-road bike at this point. They have the UP and the WIDE, which used to be like 40mm vs. 46mm. Both are getting revamped and will have more clearance. Looks like the new UP has 44, and I’d bet the new WIDE might have up to 57. That’s what the Extreme Italia from 3T allows, and they have the same engineers.
I think the largest takeaway from this is that Shimano’s new direct mount derailleurs will in fact be adaptable to UDH frames… And that those Shimano groups(XTR Di2 and GRX Di2?) will be released in Spring of 2025!
Top spec Astr RS frame set is 5000 euros per that article, which is MOG pricing. They do have a lower-mod version (+200g) for less than half that though, which is fairly compelling.
For me, integrated barstem and fully internal cabling is a miss, but opinions will vary.
It’s essentially a Astr but the entire bike with GRX 12 speed can be had for less than the Ridley Frameset. Even includes some clever Newman 40mm wide external 50mm wheels, a carbon railed saddle etc etc.
You can spec it with GRX or Force and a Classified setup for a bit more as well.
If you look at where everything lands, this is largely just a bragging right. The widest point of the tire isn’t impacted in the zone where anything larger than a 50t chainring radius would affect it. Seeing as it’s electronic only, it’s likely got a solid chain stay on the drive side.
100% This is the gravel bike I have been waiting for! It has big tire clearance but also strictly designed for racing. I don’t need bags or fork mounts as my longest rides are around 5 hours long. This bike is now at the top of my list for my next bike purchase.
The regular Astr fram seems like a steal….a bit heavier, perhaps, but at a significantly lower price. But it appears to ah e the same frame design (except with a round seatpost, which I see as a plus).
And the geo is very good……stack is lower and reach is longer on the Med compared to the 56 Crux I am riding. Plus an additional 3mm of BB drop. Wins across the board there.
