I dont like external cables.
That slate blue
I like what I see, but it’s unclear that the awesome tire clearance persists when running a 2x drivetrain.
Seems to MaxOut at 42’s
So we are back to the Scott Addict Gravel, which is the only bike to hit all the checkmarks except:
- 2023 model is not as nice as 2022
- Hard to find.
If I could test them for stiffness and comfort I can give a chance to the Ostro and Aspero. Finally decided I don’t want to compromise on internal cable so bye bye Crux .
Already on sale at biketiresdirect (for gold members anyway). Only $5k
Actually fairly standard pricing compared to other high end frames, considering it comes with very nice bars/stem/seatpost.
Does anybody know why they “downgraded” this bike from the awesome $12k 2022:
To the ok looking $10k 2023:
Components are the same. Should I be happy that I could be paying $2K less for same bike just ugly color?
Yes!
for that amount of money you better love how it looks.
To quote the late 20th Century philosopher Steve Miller - “Take The Money and Run”.
You can get a custom paint job for way less than $2K, so just get it repainted.
I may have missed it - what ruled out the Specialized Diverge?
Do you have a link you can send with details?
External Cables. I considered an exception for the Crux, given the light weight “advantage”, but eventually realized I really want internal cables.
For $2k you can have it stripped and re sprayed any colour you want by a professional.
Re: New Canyon Grizl. Not seeing it on the US website. Might pull the trigger if they have a reasonably priced Sram Rival version, preferably one with the leaf spring seatpost and budget wheels.
@oldandfast what ruled out the Lauf Seigla Rigid (Race Wireless or Ultimate)?
I only see new colors and some new Configurations on the Swiss Website, not a new Frame at least until now.
I really like the look of the Scott, my local bike shop sadly has none in XL and the lower spec 2by Shimano version also has a relatively bad component mix for the price imo. Allthough if we compare that to some of the big brands it is reasonable.
This is true - I’ve found 35mm is the smallest I would use on my racemax. 32mm GP5ks just feel too weird. 35mm feel absolutely fine.
I have a Team. So I guess the “original” Exploro and I find the same. I put 28s on and it was pretty strange feeling. 35s is probably the smallest I’d use. It also looks pretty wacky with 28s.
If you only have the one bike I’m sure it would be fine and you’d get used to it. I also have Bianchi road bike that I can squeeze 30s onto so no real need to run tires that small on my gravel bike.
That being said… With the right tires my 3T is my favorite bike I’ve ever owned.
I have raced crits on my gravel bike. It wasnt that bad.
Exposed cables
Looks like new Grizl CF SLs are available in Europe. Canyon is missing out on sales by not making all models available everywhere at the same time.
Ultimately it depends on the race, doesn’t it? I think my T-Lab with redshift stem is a great ride for Unbound, Gray Duck, and the Baked Potato at RPI, but a Topstone Lefty with 1x and a dropper would have been almost perfect for Rock Cobbler and Sea Otter Gravel, but not so great for long mid-west races.
One size doesn’t fit all, and it really sucks that I must use that conclusion to feed N+1. darn.
