I use aftershokz when I ride with headphones, but even with those I find I still can’t hear traffic/my surroundings as much as I’d like.
I got some Jaybird Vistas for Christmas. They are pretty legit.
I also put in a vote for Aftershockz, i also think there’s an enormous thread that already exists if you want even more ideas
I have a pair of Jabra Elite 75t.
As a back-up pair, I bought some FIIL Tx1’s and for $50 on sale they sound really good.
Aftershokz Aeropex is what I use- great battery life and for me personally, I can hear my surroundings. Going through town etc I then them off or down just to be on the safe side but they’re so good for solo rides.
Decent enough sound quality too and so light you forget they are on. Through winter I’ve had them on under a buff/scarf thing and they work great still.
Using some cheaper JVC wireless headphones. But I also like the super cheap JLab ones you can get from anywhere. Cheap enough that you aren’t upset when they wear out or they get lost.
Riding is my podcasting time.
After sweat killed my set of trainer bluetooth headphones (micro-usb port corroded), I decided to get some more waterproof earbud style ones. First pair was a dud, but I ended up with this $30 pair:
TOZO T10 Bluetooth 5.0 Wireless Earbuds
and they have been working great for the past few weeks. I have been impressed for how well they work given the price. They stay in my ears nicely as well. They do block a lot of outside noise, so I wouldn’t use outside.
Outside I really like my trekz aftershokz - the only problem I have with those is that wind noise can drown them out, so on windy/fast rides I listen to music instead of podcasts.
Galaxy Buds Pro Impression:
I’ve been very happy with the Jabra 75t’s, but being a headphone and earbud geek I wanted to give the new Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro a whirl. Samsung’s been doing a lot of interesting things lately and have the Airpods Pro firmly in their crosshairs.
The Buds Pro feature a lot of tech including hear-through, active noise cancelling, ability to use each earbud independently, the ability to charge the Buds in the case wirelessly including with some phones.
I found I didn’t get quite as tight as seal as I would have liked so I picked up some Spinfit 360’s in Large/X-Large for them. This helped a lot with the seal. I had previously put they on the Jabra 75t’s as I found in my ears the Spinfit’s worked even better then the Comply’s.
On the trainer the earbuds are great, but active noise cancelled gets messed up by the wind from my fans (I use three fans including a Wahoo Headwind, a Lasko and an Air King, so its like being in a wind tunner). Its better to simply turn noise cancelling off and use the passive noise reduction from a good seal. Performance in this situation is very much on par with the 75t’s.
For outside rides I was really impressed. For these I do one earbud only and mainly listen to podcasts. The earbud stayed firmly in my ear for the full 83 mile ride. No need to adjust it and audio was super clear. The ride took a little over 4 hours and battery was still going strong. I did bring the case and other bud along but didn’t need to switch out.
For regular use they are also very good. Great audio quality. Lots of cool programmable touch features. While they can be used with any phone, they do have some unique features when specifically used with Samsung products, so those invested in a Samsung ecosystem may want to take a hard look at these.
Highly recommended.
Jabra Elite 75t For me too, since Christmas and they’ve been fine on the trainer and road running, and for calls and Teams conferences too.
Hi,
Definitely Jabra Elite 75t, but ACTIVE version (waterproof IP57), and don’t forget to install noise cancelling update
Still loving mine.
I’ve got these, I couldn’t keep them in my ears at first but after getting some new eartips they’re really working well.
What tips did you get?
Consistency is the key
SpinFit CP360 for True Wireless Earbuds
You get two different sizes, I went with the smediums. With the originals I tried all the different sizes and I think it was just the material. Sooner or later they’d get sweaty and one would go flying, these don’t really feel much different in my hands, however they stay put very well. I’ve done a block of VO2 and 30/30 type stuff on the trainer lately and no issues at all.
Comply’s eartips have a good reputation too but I don’t think they actually make a set that are an exact fit for the Active version.
Thanks I’ll give those a try.
I couldn’t get the originals to stay in my ears either. I have tried the small INAIRS (similar to Comply) and they’re too wide and get sore after 30 mins.
Oh and whatever you get, when you’re running with a hood on remember to hold the earbuds in place when you remove the hood, like when you’re running uphill - don’t knock them out and kick them up the road like I did last night.
For the life of me I have never been able to get ear buds to stay in. I think my ear canal sweats and they slip out. I really like the JLab Epic Air Sport with the ear loop. I have had the same set for over 2 years and I can tell recently that the battery life isn’t quite what it used to be, but they’ll still do 3-4+ hours. It looks like the newer model has even longer battery life, mine had a 6 hour claim.
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. Its been about two years since I started this thread. I ended up purchasing a set of Mpow Flames on Amazon:
Mpow Flames
And I would HIGHLY recommend them for anyone that just wants music or spoken words during their workout. They are extremely affordable and they work well. I’ve never had any issue with sweat on these earbuds and they’ve even been through the washing machine a couple times with no ill effects.
However, their sound quality is a little on the “budget” side. I ended up also buying a pair of Apple Airpod Pros that I ride with and they work really well. I’ve not had any issue with sweat on the Airpod Pros and I love the sound quality as well as the noise cancelling features. If you can afford the Airpod Pros then you will love them for workouts. If you can’t, get the Mpow Flames!
