China....Glory?

Oh jeez…how the hell did I forget Astana?

Thank you for adding them.

LOL!! I forgot all about BV. Good point.

I’ts possible that the name “China Glory” is born out of language differences? Maybe this sounds less jingoistic in Mandarin or Cantonese or whatever is spoken where the team is based.

The term Hua Xing does not translate well into English as there is a lot of cultural significance assigned to those two characters; I imagine this goes with all languages, frankly. “Hua” usually refers to the cultural identity of the Chinese people, that historically meant the Han people but today it generally refers to anyone who has ancestry in the land that has become China. There is a sense of pride attached to that term, similar to King Henry V’s reference to himself as a Welshman to Captain Fluellen. Hua is a demonym that all “Chinese” can identify with, whether you live in Taiwan, Canada, the US, etc.

The term “Xing” is probably better translated as “arise” than “glory”; glory could work but I agree it does sound a bit strange. In this case, Xing sort of conveys the image of a revolution or rebirth. When used with “Hua” the message is that this team is mean to revive or inflame the competitive spirit in the Chinese cycling community. I think this fits well with their “about us” page as this team has some ambitious goals.

No comments other than to share the kits from a team I road with for years. America First Credit Union has been the main sponsor for a long time and has done a great job! Never any issues in the local region while riding and racing, but a few teammates had heads turn when traveling outside the US. Especially when Trump was in office  A simple explanation and all was good!

I don’t pay attention to most sports, cycling included. I loosely follow motorcycle racing. This team is in the Moto2 World Championship.

Bile Exchange is sponsored by Alula, a city in Saudi Arabia. Esukatel was formed by the government. Three (?) teams sponsored by national lotteries… I’m sure there are a ton more sponsors like that in all the ranks.

It doesnt begin or end with China Glory.

Speaking of which. Isn’t that how Team Sky/Ineos started. British Glory.

(Which I think is awesome - it’s fantastic to have big money in cycling as it becomes a rising tide)

This! I have no idea where the “glory” part came from. The first bit “Hua” typically means China as it does in this context. “xing” in this context, my first thought was maybe revival or prosper :man_shrugging:

If I look at the team name (華興洲際車隊)in Chinese only w/out translation in mind, I almost completely skip the “xing” bit.
