I am 66 and have been doing TR in the winter for several years. I usually just ride outside the rest of the year. I have gone further this year and done all of sweet spot base 1&2. I have found that with the ramp test setting my FTP I can nearly always finish 60 & 90 minute workouts and then do my 3 hour commute and 9 hour work day. I usually do 3 workouts a week and if we have a nice day I ride outside too. Make sure your ftp is honest and you aren’t overdoing the volume. Hang in there. TR isn’t just for the youngsters.
Walter,
Thanks for your email. My direct email is k4kv@k4kv.com (ham radio

Yes, I am pretty new to cycling (dec 2017 started) and brand new to TR.
I started indoors
mostly at 5 miles and 12mph. After BRAG Spring Tune-up, I did mountain
BRAG as my first
major event: 7 days, +19,000 feet, 341 miles. It was a killer for me.
Then came USBR21 in
the fall, and I did much better (3 days Chattanooga to ATL).
Had a breakthrough in November, went from 18mph for 20K to 21mph.
However, that was, as
I know now, at about 150 watts of resistance. Not real world power.
But it got me going to
seriously train for the Senior Olympics. Increased my magnetic trainer
to position 4, which I now
know is around 190 watts.
But, my training was all wrong from what I read now. I DID build muscle
and cardio, but probably
not as well or as fast as I could with the Kickr Core and TR. So, three
weeks into TR, I chose the
Short Build Mid-Volume, but I cannot complete all of the workouts. I am
doing 1 hour of the 1.5
hour though. FTP measured at 202. I need to get to 230 by May, my
first race. That should allow
me to win or be in the medals in the states around here, except for
FL(guys from Colorado and Arkansas
placed first and second with National-like times).
Take care and keep in touch…still learning.
