Hmmm, friday afternoon might be spent thinking about making a front fork mount!
I’ve always wanted a fork mount, hate using a wheel. I’m thinking an old dumb turbo could be a good foundation…
IKR? I don’t use my outside bikes on the smart trainer; I demoted/dishonored a 20 year old one.
I prefer not to have to pump up the tire to keep it from being damaged from grinding while low or flat.
You have inspired me to do a search for a solution.
Solid rubber tire. Mount it and forget it.
In case it’s not clear, the fork mount on my bike is actually the InsideRide E-Flex. Part of the whole system but nice as you allude, since it’s zero maintenance.
And like Power, the “regular” wheel on my wife’s bike is a spare one, stuffed with hard foam in the bottom of the tire (no tube). This is a still has some cushion like a tire & tube, but no maintenance either.
I’m thinking about making something like this out of a 4x2…
I had been thinking about doing a solid rubber tire on my dedicated front trainer wheel ( a damaged old hed wheel) and kept meaning to ask if anyone was doing that.
I’d love to free up the space/get better fan room with a fork mount, but for some reason I adjust my bars a lot on the trainer and fixed would probably annoy me too much. I think something is off by a degree or so on my aerobars that visually messes me up depending on if I’m in or out of the aero position.
For an indoor setup, they are great…literally never have to think about your front tire again.
Just make sure it is a dedicated indoor wheel. Definitely not recommended for outdoor use. High Crr, terrible comfort and sketchy AF in a turn.
oh yeah this wheel is 100% trainer wheel and actually about to pull a rando one out of storage at my shop for her bike too so will probably get two. Can’t have the wheel wall incomplete any longer with one of her wheels missing!
I reized my desk was a waste of money since my bike is close to front wall where I have 2 fans on shelf. The setup with the wheeled cart was just kinda useless. Makes sense if you don’t use fans and are far away from tv but not useful for my case.
The overhang made it a huge pain to switch bikes too
Yeah but has that upper fan is going to fall, smash both monitors, bounce off your knuckles, and take a couple teeth to boot. But seriously, I love your setup!
I keep my Lasko just in front of my front tire, with the Wahoo Desk sitting over both. This way, I can roll the desk backwards/forwards a few inches to get more/less airflow directly on my face.
The magic of a cantilever… hiding behind the screen.
