That’s not at ALL what I’m saying. What I’m saying is that having a stack of CDs taking up space doesnt make me enjoy music to a greater degree. If anything…the opposite is true…music becomes a headache to contend with.
Gotcha. You said “I agree completely” to
Staying with the dinner analogy…I’d put it as…“you know what would have made this night out even more amazing? Not being able to find parking and waiting 90 minutes for a table.”
Ok I see. Looking back I think his statement might have been a tad unclear and we both went in differing directions on this. I didnt take it as convenience vs enjoyment of music…but convenience vs specifically the nostalgia aspect of the physical medium.
That said, I DO kind of get the viewpoint. I think you’ve got to be pretty hardcore about it want to be surrounded by physical music and be nostalgic anout it though. I’m certainly not there…music has never been something I spend time thinking about.
That said…I do need some new bands to listen to.
Yeah, my intent isn’t to argue, and like i said, I’m not anti-digital. It’s just mind blowing to me when people say “music has never made me feel an emotion” when music is a part of almost every memorable moment of my life. I can’t imagine music never pumping you up, making you feel better when you’re sad, getting you through a hard part of your life, getting you through the next interval of a workout, making a scene in a movie more intense, etc…simply because it’s been doing all those things for me since I was a little kid.
Different strokes for different folks.
I think ultimately, like virtually everything, it’s a spectrum.,.not a yes or no proposition.
Music is something I hear…I dont spend time thinking about it. But I will put on some fast songs for intervals, there are some songs I look forward to hearing.
Bang on. That was what I was trying to say!
Although… I am nostalgic for the time of physical mediums. I still have all my old records, CDs, and a box full of cassettes somewhere as reminders of those experiences. They’re like photographs.
These days, I have far more great great music I can listen to, and I love that immensely.
I think this is just what getting old feels like. In many ways things are objectively better, more convenient…but everything is less personal, more online, more anonymous. One thing I really miss actually is going to the video store. Streaming is better…but I still miss going to the video store.
I’m definitely getting old. Or society is just slowly decaying around us at a barely perceptible rate until we’re in all living in some post apocalyptic wasteland.
Probably both…
I beg to disagree. Your music preference does reflect your mentality from time to time.
It’s not at all hard to read someone’s mind by the habits and choices they have/make. Although I did freak someone out when they found out I really liked grunge. Never figured out what it was about me that got them thinking I was into country. I most certainly are NOT into country. URP
But music is a drug. I tried ‘aggressive rock’, and just NO!. (My heart rate, my anxiety. My me? Pass) Nirvana on planes, Counting Crows on long road trips. Green Day, Motörhead, Soundgarden/Audioslave, NIN, etc on workouts…
