EAGLE AXS experience?

So far just 3 impacts on the derailleur. First one I kicked up a rock and it banged off the cage, another one off the clutch cover, but today I took a bigger spill which ended up bending the hanger, derailleur is all good. This thing is definitely sturdy, but definitely sticks out far AF

For everyone who had issues with the controller, this new paddle looks to be a rather reasonable $20 @Jonathan I remember from your podcast you couldn’t stand your AXS controller, the fix may be here

New AXS controller looks interesting. Has anyone seen it listed for sale yet? On SRAMs side, when I took a quick look, it didn’t look like you can buy direct.

Part number is 00.3018.290.000 for the paddle and I believe 00.3018.289.000 for the whole controller. Should be for sale shortly I would think. For $20 I’ll def try

Hi guys I put my new rocker on yesterday.

Initial thoughts? I didn’t care for the AXS shifter when I first got it, but it’s second nature now. I figured this is worth trying.

I didn’t realize you still had AXS after your incident

Ha ha. Yes I had to buy a new AXS derailleur so still have it. Figured it wasn’t worth swapping it all out and the higher spec manual ones were on backorder here.

Thoughts are in the video but I like it… after comparing them side by side it is more natural… especially when I sway from my Enduro bike with manual to the XC bike.

Bummer you had a bad crash with it. I did wipe out on mine and just bent the hanger as a result, all good now that it’s been replaced

I’ve noticed derailleur hangers going to wack with axs (I like to shift under load a lot), partially attributed to the UDH hanger which seems to be made of cheese.

Shifting definitely isn’t as smooth under load as XTR/XT which makes me consider something like the Ryan Palmer hybrid approach.

I think that is true @Ankit_Sachdeva . Unfortunately I found out during my A race a few weeks ago when I snapped my AXS chain. :joy:

Definitely not the smoothest under load for sure. I’ve considered that hybrid setup for when this stuff wears out but it’s not like eagle shifts poorly, it sounds worse than it actually shifts

Exactly and will probably do the same. I’m curious how bad lighter cassette options like garbaruk or ingrid are. XTR is going the wrong direction in weight…

Anyone had a change to try the new rocker paddle? I like the setup but still a bit imperfect IMO. I wanted the further away trigger (rocker down) to put me in a harder gear, which leaves the easier gear up on top now, can feel a bit unnatural. I did move the shifter slightly inboard as a result but just getting used to it, had to reverse the shift direction in the app but fine otherwise.

I changed a few months ago, no problems and prefer the new one. I did exactly the same as you, moving it inboard and changing APP configuration. The only problem I found was that in moving the paddle in it is a bit off centre compared to the other side and also a couple of times it moved back out and touched the grip which stopped the shifter working and I thought that I had a different problem.

That’s the one. I use ESI grips and have the matchmaker installed so maybe mine fits differently. Wish the upper part wasn’t such a reach but that’s a limitation of the rocker system itself it has to be up high.

Friend of mine bought a new Spark which came with AXS. He ended up going back to XX1 mechanical. He races pro, so he isn’t bad. Complained about inconsistent shifting time delays.

I am sticking to mechanical on my MTB’s I would never use it on my big bike. Sounds nice on the XC, until after my friend switched back to mech. I just wish my XC was set up for Sram, but it came XTR. But for the price of the bike, beggars can’t be choosers and it is hard to complain about XTR.

Mine has been good so far not a ton of miles on it but works as it should. I will say it doesn’t shift as smooth as my Ultegra Di2 under power but my mechanic said some of this is because gear spacing is considerably wider on Eagle 10-50 vs an 11-28, point taken.

It definitely shifts nicer than the GX mech I had, but I mostly like the little zip zip sounds :grinning:

AXS is the only Sram group I’d ever consider.

When I build my next bike, I might go for it.
