I’d also note that I am slightly underwhelmed by my upgrade from 1000 to 830 - if you can find a good deal for a 1000 then you don’t miss out on much.
Has anyone seen any Garmin deals lately? They all seem to be at full price now. No deals to be found on ebay. I hesitated when REI just had the 20% off sale.
£30 discount on a 530
Thanks but need a US deal. I can wait. I’m in no hurry.
Garmin Edge 1030 Plus is now listed on Target website
I went from the 520, to the bigger Wahoo, which I kept for 2 years], and then to a 1030. Best bike computer I have owned. My wife and I travel a lot, so the navigation on a large screen is worth it for us, as is the battery life.
Huge news if true in that Target 1030 Plus posting is that it seems to support inReach, Garmin’s branding for their two-way Iridium satellite communication.
That could come in handy for ultra-endurance events, as well as live tracking outside of areas with good cellphone service.
I wonder what else is new on the device.
I like how they have xert in one of the screenshots of the 1030 plus. Doesn’t seem like too much new. All I see is:
suggested workouts
import old device settings (maybe setting up for off device modification of settings)
Increase in battery life from 20 to 24 hours (so guessing newer and more efficient CPU)
pause off-course notifications
The 1030 supported it, so not new Edge 1030 Owners Manual - Using the inReach Remote
That actually would be huge news
Check out all the garmin IQ fields there are out there. if you get into those, the 1030 is worth it. I love mine.
Examples
FWIW, I just picked up a 530 for $260 shipped. They didn’t even ding me for state tax.
They had them last week for this price. I found them on Google shopping. They ran out but I found one in stock last night and went for it. If anyone is looking for a 530 check Google shopping again next week.
Garmin have just released new 1030 Plus
Yeah they definitely needed to do something with the 1030 - it just wasn’t demonstrably better than the 830.
Still think i’m happy with my choice to go with the 830 rather than wait for the 1030 plus. The 1030 plus is at least now a better product than the 830 - but is it £200 better?
I think the 530, 830, and 1030 all already support the InReach. Initially they didn’t when the InReach Mini launched, but I believe a subsequent update enabled syncing with it.
InReach is a great way to stay connected on those long rides outside of cellphone range.
