I will obviously set my data to 1s instead of Smart as I should be nowhere near having battery issues.
As it’s something that passed me by completely on my 130+, due to ignorance and battery saving tactics, I’m curious what aspects of the recording will be noticeable?
Does it improve the GPS accuracy for Strava segments? Or in general? What other stupidly basic stuff am I missing/should be excited about?
I’ve read somewhere if you pair a power meter the Edge units will switch to 1s recording. I’d need to verify this. I don’t think smart screws with much… unless you’re doing comparisons/etc where direct 1-1 analysis is important.
While you’re at it…did you ever make a video about how useless the option to “show elevation profile” field below map is. It’s tied to the zoom level of the map and unless you zoom way out you just see a horizontal line.
FWIW, it seems like the 530 could run the 830 software features but it’s routing, for example, was intentionally dumbed down to differentiate between the 530 and 830. I wouldn’t expect any upgrades on your old 530.
When they released the 1040 there were several features that weren’t rolled to the 1030 so my guess is we’ll see something similar with the 530/540s when they’re released.
Edge 540 was available at my LBS yesterday (April 8th), but the staff was busy with another customer, so I couldn’t ask questions about it. No public reviews out yet from @dcrainmaker nor @GPLama, so I’m guessing it’s still embargoed, and the LBS put it out too early. I can’t find any factual information online about it yet, so I’m guessing it’ll be officially on sale this week and all the reviews are forthcoming…
