Garmin Edge 530

Any issues with the back button? I have mine on preorder, but I’m kinda concerned that I’ll get a bad first batch one. Back button issue: Garmin Edge 530 Cycling GPS In-Depth Review | DC Rainmaker

the only thing you can do is …wait… and find out when you get it.
yeah few people have complained.

No issue for me so far

Thanks for sharing this - really helpful.

It would be interesting for people to share screenshots of their programming sheets.

The ClimbPro screen also has two fields at the bottom that you can have display whatever you want. I used power and heartrate but you could use anything else as well. If I remember right it is the same two fields as the map screen.

No issues here specifically with the “back” button though I will say all the buttons feel like you have to press them in a certain way, or angle, for it to feel like you’ve properly pressed it.

After my first ride I wouldn’t say it’s a bad thing but maybe just something to get used to.

Back button wouldn’t work so i have sent it back! Naturally I am disappointed and kicking myself for being an early adopter. Overall, i wasn’t very impressed by the buttons in general so have a now ordered an 830 instead.

You have to use the garmin to get the metrics. I actually use both at the same time. I use TR and my Garmin at the same time just to get the metrics on my garmin. I dont sync TR with Garmin for indoor workouts… I do it just for fun. I cant see I find it helpful. it’s just interesting.

I would also add the heatmap. it’s useful when create in routes

I have the 530 and a 1030. My 530 back button is a little iffy- it works but you have to press a bit hard. It’s getting replaced. I have to say that, other than entering Wi-Fi passwords, I like the buttons better than the touchscreen. I sweat a lot a every time I wipe off the screen on the 1030 it ends up on some random page that I have to return from. Also, it doesn’t work at all with some of my gloves. The buttons don’t have these problems.

Mine should arrive tomorrow, excited to test it!
Especially interested in the MTB options of the device.

Hopefully it won’t be one with a faulty back button, that would suck.

Won’t be able to test the power readings though, still haven’t made a decision on a powermeter purchase.

Hello,
what is the unit like when it comes to FTP/VO2max metrics? A friend of mine has a 1030. FTP and VO2max estimations seem to be updated after every ride. On my 520, it happens around every leap year, when some exact criteria are met.
Cheers,
-JP

Got mine yesterday, no broken back button yay!
I don’t know who does the packing design for Garmin but damn it needs a bit of work…

I bought the sensor bundle so that I don’t have to switch all the sensors all the time between my race bike and the MTB, the unit itself was nicely packed on top but the rest was just small plastic bags thrown in there.

I am not sure if that’s done by Garmin or whether the shop selling has to combine the sensors with the unit but it just takes away a bit from the experience when you finally get your unit delivered.

It’s been a month since the release and it is still not available!!

Just curious, where did everyone pre-order the unit?

Ordered mine 4/25 on Amazon (had a credit) and still hasn’t shipped yet. After hearing about all the button issues I’m hoping it’s all sorted out before mine ships.

I ordered mine on 30/4 and received it yesterday 24/5.

Haven’t used it in anger yet but set most of it up. Can’t help but think they missed a huge trick with not allowing data screens to be setup in the app. My fingers are sore from button pushing. Including the back button a lot which seems to work fine?

Since the firmware update climb pro seems to have got much worse before the climb I get a nice graph split by gradient sections but as soon as it starts I get a flat coloured bar. Anyone got any ideas if I’m doing something wrong

I’m thinking about getting an 830 in a few weeks to replace my 810.

I’ve seen a picture which shows a block graph for structured workouts, does this work in a similar way to TR (ie a li e overlaid with what you’ve actually done) or is the graph just to show the structure?

Just a note to those of you with the sticky back button problem- I have been using my 530 with the sticky button for a couple of weeks while I am waiting for a replacement. I just noticed today that all of the buttons now are working fine. I wonder if there is some sort of breaking in period. Maybe the sticky button has a bit too tight a tolerance in its hole or something and a bit of use loosens it up? Anyway, I thought that I would mention it.
