Same….just found out this weekend about Vuity, prescription eye drops that resolve near-vision issues for up to 6 hours. Gonna talk to my doc about it.
Isn’t that what the 10x0 edge is for? Could improve if they could remove the labels and use a bigger font for each metric where when you touch the screen it adds the labels back (i.e. default to no labels during a ride, touch the screen to show you want to concentrate on the screen and see more detail)
I can’t quite get on with the shape of the 10x0 series, it’s so long to be hanging out the front of your bike (not to mention the cost). But yes, removing labels and bigger fonts is exactly what I want. So much of the screen you do have isn’t used.
on the 10x0 I kind of wish they could do something like the Stages Dash and give the option of landscape OR portrait.
I wouldn’t count on that. It would require a new mount system, and that would result in a large pushback from a lot of current(upgrading) customers.
No, they just need to move to a 1/8 turn mount, or simply allow the interface on the mount to rotate 90*.
Both options are available today…
Most the mounts have replaceable plastic inserts don’t they? (My K-Edge one does anyway) You could just insert them at 90°?
Not that I think they will, but it does seem like the 1030 being so big would benefit from that as an option.
Shortcut button or tap gesture that takes me to one of my data screens for 15s or so and then returns to previous screen…
I usually go with a simple screen that shows lap time, lap power and current heart rate or zone, and I’d like to have one touch to temporarily display my ride summary screen (with avg speed, hr, power, distance, time, TIZ, etc.) and then back to my regular screen. Kind of a hassle and safety risk to do this manually while on the move now.
I’d also like both touchscreen and buttons cause sometimes in rain or with gloves I’d like the full button functionality of the 530 (or whichever one has buttons only).
User replaceable battery since I just had to replace a perfectly fine Varia 515 due to failed battery.
User defined power smoothing (something in between 3 and 10s)
Oh, and most of all, I wish Garmin would try to create a “smart, dynamic structured outside workout” feature that would dynamically modify a structured workout I’m doing outside (real-time, in ride) so that by the end I could hit the intent of the workout in spite of real world factors (e.g. stoplights). Maybe too complex and I should just keep using my brain but seems like software could help.
Just because the puck is replaceable doesn’t mean it can be installed in any orientation, and the garmin brand mounts(that allow use of the lower accessory mount) do not have a removable puck.
I haven’t tried, but I suspect the K-Edge ones are able to be installed in either orientation as the Wahoo puck mounts with bolts 90° out.
All theoretical. Just saying it potentially wouldn’t require an entire redesign.
I don’t think they will make it able to go in landscape, but they probably could/should.
For me:
Higher res screen
Shrink the crazy big bevel
USB-C so I can eliminate one more cable to carry when traveling with my bike
Faster processor / more responsive device
Fully configurable on a computer
Wants:
Modern profile / page system. That is: I should be able to creat a page / data screen once, and use it in multiple profiles
The ability to easily reorder data pages
The ability to set bike off of sensors. For example: if connected to “road power meter”, set bike = road bike. And write that into the Fit file
RANT: why isn’t “bike” a field in the FIT file, so I can set it once instead of having to change it after the fact separately in Strava, TrainingPeaks, etc.?
Neat! My older one(I don’t remember what model it came with) doesn’t look like that! Can it be rotated 90*?
Absolutely…I’m surprised your older one couldn’t do that because if you have a Forerunner watch and QR strap, those use the Wahoo orientation.
All the new Garmin mounts should be able to be rotated easily.

I was going to just use my 945 and phone from now on… 35 hours. This has me thinking!!!
35 hours would be pretty nuts! Even less reason for people to buy the external pack then. I’d settle for a reliable 10 - that would be 6 or 7 hours more than my 820 can manage now. Aside from that (which in itself is probably not that big a draw over the 1030+ battery life) there’s not much in that leak to get excited about… I do quite like the idea of a bestbikesplit type thing I guess.
Agreed. What’s I’d really like is a better / higher res screen + faster processor. Will have to wait on actual samples in the wild before any insight on those.
The author suggests a release date within the next fortnight for the 1040
"I’m bactracking on my earlier Q3 release date as the emergence of these details supports a release as soon as Wed 1st June or Wed 8th June…"
Hopefully we will see the 540/840 released around the same time
