How do you feel about the current Carbon Wheel market?

I finally got tracking for the Farsports - over a week past order but looking forward to throwing them on. Still feeling good about the decision even though i’ve continued reading and looking at other sets. The more I read the more I want to build a true weight weenie build… I should lose some weight first ha.

I’ve been a little bit reluctant, but took the jump and just received a set of Nextie Gravel Wheels (NXT45 AGX - Hooked / 29mm IW). The specs were right, and I could get them with DT180’s for a lower price to match all of the other Gravel and MTB wheels I have so I know I always have spares.

Still need a cassette and rotors, but the ordering process went smoothly, and everything was packed extremely securely. Initial look at quality looks like you’d get from any premium brand.

We’ll see if I regret it if I ever have to replace a spoke, but went with the version with no spoke holes in the rim bed, so no rim tape required…

Recommendation for all those in EU

R2 Bike has now taken in LightBicycle rims and builds up complete sets with chosen hubs and spokes.

This means you can get EU warranty and support if that’s of value.

First ride as brief but went well. The butt dyno says these feel faster during 40 second aero position efforts. I’m overall very happy and glad I spent what I did and saved what I did. Time will be the true judge. If I had any critique it would likely be with the hub noise. It’s a bit deeper and tinny than I would prefer but it doesn’t actively bother me.

Shipping did take a while, though prime has ruined me for anything that takes over a few days.

When these current GP have a bit less life I’ll try for a 32 vs the 28 on here now.

Dayum….warn us before you post fresh bike pjorn like that!!

(But you lose 3 points for taking the picture from the non-drive side.)

This side shows off the rotors better  - nobody cares about a boring old force crank

How long did it take for shipping?
I just received notification from Nextie that my NXT45CGX will be sent to Fedex today.
I’m in the US like you are.

Jan 4th - Order placed
Jan 5th - Order received
Jan 15th - Tracking number delivered
From the 16th to the 19th the wheels took an interesting route that i’m assuming isnt real and just showing as a data issue on the tracking label…
Xiamen, China → Gaungzhou, China → Memphis, US → Sennan-Shi, Japan → Memphis, US → To me on the 20th.

So just over 2 weeks from order being placed. The slowest part was just the processing at Panda Podium and the actual shipping seemed quite quick once Fedex got a hold of them.

About a week for me once I got the FedEx tracking number. Pretty quick.

Everything was going great with Nextie until the wheels had to be shipped…
I ordered my wheelset on January 7th. I was sure to ask if Nextie could build the wheels before they took their planned break for Chinese New Year and they confirmed they could build and initiate the shipping before Jan 25th.
Sure enough, I got a FedEx tracking number on the 23rd. And then… nothing. The FedEx tracking showed the same status of “Label created” but no movement.
I reached out to Nextie since they returned to the office on Feb 4th and they informed me today that “carrier just told us today, it was detained by customs because it exceeded new regulations”.

So, word of caution right now for those of us ordering from the US. You should expect shipping delays and of course now a minimum of 10% tax.

I’m sorry to hear that. Does the FedEx label suggest it ever was picked up, or still only show the stage as ‘label created?’

Is there a cap for this? I believe there would typically be import duties on orders over $800 but not sure where we stand with the latest tariff talk (sorry not trying to fire anyone up politically).

No, they removed the “de minimis” loophole this week. Everything from China is now subject to the tariffs.

Note - it is potentially not just the new 10% tariff. If the good you are importing has an existing tariff for its HTS code, then you need to pay that tariff AND the new 10% tariff. The 10% tariff is cummulative.

Yup, exactly. And I have yet to find out what the total fee will be.

The Fedex status stayed at “label created”.
I have no way to confirm if they ever got the wheel or not. However, Nextie is telling me that they will ship the wheels via UPS “As soon as they get the wheels back from FedEx”.

If you can find out what the HTS code it is being imported under, you can then figure out what the existing tariffs are. Nexttie should be able to tell you what HTS code they are using. @teddygram may be able to help, as well.

The lack of FedEx information makes me skeptical about what you’re being told by Nextie… that said, FedEx may be the recipient after a local carrier regionally collects and THEY are who have the wheels.

FWIW, I’d get wheels shipped EMS if possible over UPS or Fedex. Every time I’ve had an international shipment, UPS has tried to extort money from me. EMS delivered by the USPS has never done this.

I had a frame shipped and UPS extorted $45 out of me. Why $45. Nobody could explain. It was a $3000 frameset. It wasn’t 10% or 5%. On top of it, they wanted a tax id or SSN to deliver the frame. I created a taxID with the IRS just for this purpose because I didn’t want to give UPS my SSN.

I hear you. I also find it strange that the fedex status never changed to “We have your package”. But I have to say that I trust FedEx less than I trust Nextie :-).

Thanks, but I’m OK waiting for the surprise. It shouldn’t be that bad…
