šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰ Introducing Outside Workouts! šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰

Hi Nate & Co

Iā€™ve tried it a couple of times for different types of workouts. So, a bit of feedback.

First, its a great feature with long-term potential. Not without itā€™s issues, for me at least which is stopping me using it more,

Iā€™m using it with a 520 atm, and the text is quite small, for my eyes at least, Looking to move to a 1030 so that hopefully will alleviate that. Though putting the power range in bigger text would help.

Big issue, which had be swearing at the screen and ending my session early is the low power warning. Itā€™s making it unusable.

Itā€™s not always easy to find a safe flat road, many have bends, dips, rises etc. After a few seconds of the power going under range for an interval the edge beeps and the power warning comes on. Problem is that itā€™s full screen overlay and stays on for 5 seconds. During that time road conditions change and I havenā€™t got a clue what power Iā€™m putting out.

I know what the power range is Iā€™m trying to hold. Is it possible to either turn the warnings off, or at least the full screen layover. Just beeping at me to let me know would be ok.

But to essentially block the screen is a bit overkill.

Thanks

Stephen

Yup.

I think the majority of your complaints are all things TR has no control over. Text size, full-screen alerts: thatā€™s all Garminā€™s doing. Hopefully you will get a cleaner experience with the 1030 :+1:

The low power warning bugged the hell out of me on my 520 too. Itā€™s a Garmin feature. You turn it off in the Alert settings menu!

Is it possible to still show the graph via the calendar after setting it to outside workout? I still like seeing what it coming vs reading it prior to going outside?

Below is what I see after setting to outside but wondering if the graph can still be there along with the text?

I have turned them off but honeslty been using the workout screen on my 530. Just wish the workout screen I was able to change the avg step power to 3s power but at least I can see the target.

@Nateā€¦kudos on this feature super easy to use and follow .game changer for staying on a plan yet keeping motivation by mixing in outside and insideā€¦Awesome! On my ride today I was think a lot about pacing for Leadville and thought that I could use the build a work out tool and push that to my garmen. Is this possible ??? If it is it would be a great tool for these long race that staying in the lower zones is key to a successful day.

Here is one option:

Yea this option works for now until TR releases these via the creator. Honestly though as Chad mentioned it is probably shorter just to build it in GC and send that way.

Thanks Chad. That seems like it will work pretty well

I think best bike split has something like that. I think you can also put wattage alerts on your Garminā€¦but Iā€™m not sure about that.

AG2R LA MONDIALE has them on their bikes, DK 200 winner Alison Tetrick is another notable name that uses a Lezyne. Iā€™ll be in the market for a GPS head unit come next spring, and the outside workouts on the Lezyne would make the decision a no brainer for me. Please consider Lezyne.
Thanks for the great product, podcast, and support! Canā€™t thank you guys enough.

I have done a bunch of outside workouts. I really enjoy the workouts. I do them in a park with a 3.4 mile out and back loop. It really makes the time go by and I can stick to more structured workouts. Thanks for the great product. I have been using TR for years now. Thanks again

You didnā€™t tell me how much better the workout screen is on the 530 compared to the 520 :open_mouth: It might not have the average power, but being able to see the workout steps as a chart is a useful cue to keep on power.

(Also digging all the extra stats the 530 is pumping into Garmin Connect)

Feedback on Spencer + 2:
There are currently no breaks between the 6 sets of 7 (3+4) minutes, which makes it very hard to complete all sets (in my local terrain). Maybe intentional, maybe something to be correctedā€¦

Dont have the 520 to compare and never had it but glad that it is awesome.

Sorry about that, @Agglo! I went in and added a Lap prompt before the start of each set. Thank you for the feedback! :+1:

I am sure most people already know this but if you add indoor trainer ā€œtarget powerā€ as one of the data fields it is very helpful when doing an outdoor workout. Here is my setup which I do like. image

Itā€™s not hard to adjust the interval upward by 10 watts for example while youā€™re doing the interval to account for inside/outside FTP differences. The problem is with Garmin (Edge 520 in my case). If youā€™re average power creeps up or below the desired range, a Garmin message appears which completely covers the screen and blocks you from seeing your numbers. This is super duper annoying. So 1 of 2 things are needed to correct the problem; (1) allow users to set an outside FTP, (in TRā€™s control) (2) convince Garmin to change this notification, blocking the whole screen is ridiculous. Love TR, love the new feature (used it yesterday), love the podcast, keep up the great work!

Hello, was just checking to see if there is a projected date for the outside workout integration on the Wahoo head units?

Thanks!

Feedback on Tray Mountain:

Descriptors states:
Warm Up: - Ride for 11 minutes gradually raising your power from 160 to 287. -
5 minutes easy.
Main Set: - 3x20 minutes at 287 watts with 5 minutes easy between intervals.
Cool Down: - 4 minutes easy

On my Garmin today there were several elements missing:
1.No warmup
2. first five minutes easy
3. One repeat is missing - there are only two in the workout file.
4. Cool down is missing
