Sweet! Thatās what I was hoping youād say. Iām currently in SSB and itās suggesting a Full Distance Triathlon Base. Guess that makes sense, lol. Thanks!
This is very cool. Super impressed. Just entered all my details for a 70.3 in Feb and planned everything out.
Looks like it works just fine with existing cycling races, but if you want Triathlons you need to delete them and add them again during season configuration, unless there was a specific Triathlon race category I had missed in the past.
Edit: Oh yeah, I guess I had missed that thereās a Triathlon category for races. Is that new or was I just not paying attention?
Maybe this is semantic, but I donāt really see this as creating a custom training plan. The only thing it customizes (more than could already be done in the calendar) is the length of the plan.
As an example to try to better explain my thoughtsā¦ Iām training for Olympic Triathlons in June and July. Itās nice that I can set the start date for the training plans and the race dates, but I still canāt customize the number of rides/runs/swims each week. Iām primarily a cyclist and would prefer to ride 3 times a week, run twice, and swim once. But the number of each activities is set as soon as I choose the type and volume of plan. So to make this work for my life I still have to choose a cycling plan and then manually add in the swims and runs.
Also, my A race is in June and I have another event 3 weeks later in July, but the system totally fails when I either try to set 2 A races so close together or when I try to end on a B or C race.
This tool is a good start but itās only marginally better than what we already had for my specific situationā¦
@TravisM The triathlon race type is a new addition with this release!
When tweaking the plan settings, changing the volume resets what the plan was for that date period.
i.e. plan builder gave rolling race - MV, which I changed to crit MV, and then tried to pick LV, only to have it reset to rolling race LV.
what workaround did you use? itās trying to get me to do a full base period after my current SSB1 finishes (having already done SSB1 ā SSB2 ā SSB1 [current])
@ssphillips thanks for the feedback on this! We have a fix being tested right now regarding ending with a B or C event. I would expect this to be deployed tomorrow if all goes well.
We do agree that there is a fair amount more we can do especially for triathletes, but feel this is a very solid start!
Thanks TR - I had been āplaying aroundā with another standalone program for planning recently.
I was about to re-do some sweet spot sessions as I have my spring upper respiratory track infection and short sharp intervals are a bit of a challenge at this time. Wind, dust and smoke in air in from bush fires in Australia do not help either, especially for the outside rides I had thought about.
The plan builder did it all for me - I just had to delete the existing plan start dates to remove the planned sessions form those plans.
I just logged on to the forum as I had some unexpected free time after my regular recovery activity of competition golf was interrupted by a stray golf ball, a hit on the head and a trip to the ED for a concussion testā¦training peaks gives me a HRTSS of around 190, but that does not count in TRā¦
So its off to the gym for a strength workout.
Fantastic work Trainer Road team - bravo! The length of your Base/Build/Speciality has never really worked out well for me so this is a huge step up in helpfulness. Love it.
Iāve found a bug but it appears to be one you know about - I select āClimbing Road Raceā as the Race Type for my A Race, but when I get to the āEvents Tabā (5th tab into answering questions in my Plan Builder) my A Race is still sitting as āAdd Typeā and then I canāt get past that screen (although I think itāll let me if I change āClimbing Road Raceā to āRolling Road Raceā but thatāll obviously knock up a different plan to what Iām keen for).
Thanks for working on it all and Iāll keep a watch here to see when itās fixed. Thanks guys!
Damn computers are stealinā my job! How am I supposed to sit around at work secretly planning out 10 different training plan scenarios when this does it all for me. ba-humbug
Niceeee!! But what happens with my current schedule when i hit the Schedule plan button?
Looks cool, but what should I select if I am focused on endurance and centuries from the road racing options when I have to select āTarget discipline or goalā? Gran Fondo? Would be nice to have a dedicated option for endurancy cyclists (century and longer), I think a lot of us are focused on that (correct me if I am wrong).
I have just used this to create a plan for the following (triathlete):
- Olympic race on the 12th Jan 2020 (C race)
- Half Ironman on the 23rd Feb 2020 (B race)
- Half Ironman on the 5th April 2020 (A race)
Was pretty happy with what the plan builder spat out. Will utilise the bike workouts and largely the runs. Going to use Swim Smooth for the swim component.
I thought of trying this, but got an error when the tool was building the overview (I guess).
AS a background, I only added two A races, if that has anything to do with this. Will be happy to provide more info if needed.
Tried to set up a plan but it wonāt leg me set a date whilst on my tablet
Absolutely brilliant tool and super easy to use, even on my iPad mini.
My major takeaway is the fact that I must have listened to the advice given by the TR team on the Podcast and this forum. The proposed plan is almost exactly the same as the one I currently have planned into my calendar
I can see this tool being super useful for so many people. Great addition.
Thanks @markso1077 for sharing. Would be interested to know about how you use Swim Smooth and you fit it into your training program. Thanks !
GREAT GREAT GREAT!
No more doubts (at least they will decrease for sure) on choosing or adjusting plans. Iāve too look this with care later because Iām on the 4th week of SSBII towards a A race and with some doubts still on how to adjust my current plan to fit exactly to the A race date.
MANY THANKS to all TR team devoloping this more customized option.
Thanks TR for this: it looks great.
One issue that I noted: if I fill out the forms with [say] a medium volume plan for a rolling road stage race and then want to look at how the plan would be adjusted for a climbing road stage race, then I have to re-enter all the information about the individual stages of the stage race again. Is there a way to enable us to modify the earlier information without having to re-enter all the subsequent information ā after all, in the case of a week or 10-day stage race, it is a significant task to have to re-enter all that information.
Another: when entering the dates and times for stage races, can the āchoose dateā option open to the same date as the previous stage, without having to click through all the months to get to the correct month?
Again: thanks.
