Is 40 too low for cadence on climb?

Everyone’s has different cadence abilities, the more time training those abilities both high and low can only really be an advantage in my opionion.

As a singlespeed MTBer racing long endurance events (100mile.+) I can quite happily spend upwards of an hour or longer at 45-55rpm on climbs.

In saying that the 40rpm you mention is lower than I’ve needed my range to go for long periods, however, if your body can handle it and you feel good then why not!

If my cadence drops below 75…I’m in serious trouble. I’m like several others that have commented and I prefer to have a cadence of 90+ if at all possible on climbs. My heart rate is higher, but I found my heart recovers fairly easily after an effort…my legs on the other hand? Once they go, they’re done for the day. A cadence of 40 would definitely make them go POP.
