Finally have a dedicated pain cave.
Curious your thoughts if you would add/change anything.
I know the TV is a little too high but don’t want to mount it
TV ain’t too high & looks pretty darn good to me.
Great looking setup overall.
It doesn’t look too high to me either. Do you feel you’re straining (raising your head) to look at it? If not its probably spot on. If anything on my tiny phone it looks too low (but again if it feels right when you ride, your not straining, it is right IMO). Nice space btw
$100? I think I’ll stick with the ironing board. lol
Lower than my TV! Looks good.
Perfectly understandable if that works for you ! That is a small project where everything is made in North America in small batches, with recycled polymers that don’t come cheap at all. If demand is there, I sure hope this could be offered at a lower price but until then, this is the price point that allows us to keep working on this (which is still is 30$ under the current regular price of the Tacx model).
I am glad you commented. I would not have looked otherwise. This is really cool you guys!
In that case I should have been a little more tactful. Sorry, didn’t realise it was your product.
There is a phone holder attached to the cabinet in front of the bike for TrainerRoad, pods, music. I don’t have a tablet or wish to buy something else, my iPhone 8+ screen (current phone) is plenty big enough.
I very much dislike rocking plates. I made one and tried every variation of pivot, rebound resistance and rebound placement. The opposite factor throws me off big time and I couldn’t get past it. I tried and tried. I don’t care to try anymore. This Kickr Core also seems to allow the bike to dip to the right side if I stand up or sprint, so I built this platform to stabilise everything. It’s a locker plate. However, because it’s locked in, I still don’t do a road-style sprint or anything with torque because I don’t want to over stress the steerer. I should have included a lazy susan in the build but I mostly used what was in the garage. It did solve the right side listing, though, so I can at least stand and pedal evenly now.
Bands, glute ham roller, other stuff hidden inside the cabinet. Bike stuff mostly hidden in the various containers in the shelves.
I print and place surface designs I’m working on above the cabinet but need to paint or print something large for above the bike.
I’m finishing up a revamp of my basement—will post pics when it’s done (still waiting on some storage components to be shipped). I am, however, looking for recommendations for a speaker setup. Ideally, I could pipe in the TV + Bluetooth connectivity. Here’s the rub: I want as few wires as possible. I’m open to mounting speakers on walls, but that requires wire management. Suggestions?
I wouldn’t go speakers, but rather Bluetooth ear buds. It’s a better experience than blasting the sound over the trainer and fans noise.
For my wife’s setup, I have a decent & affordable Vizo soundbar with the wireless sub (2.1) and it’s great for a simple setup.
I use Bluetooth ear buds for my own use that is as clean as possible, doesn’t bother anyone and as mentioned, kills trainer and fan noise.
Both can work well depending on what you want.
I have two of the Sonos one SL’s. Pricey compared to other options but great connectivity and wireless other than plugging them in for power. I mostly use them for music when I am doing workouts (trainer or gym work). I typically use wireless ear buds if I am watching TV as they are far better hearing the TV with the trainer and fan noise.
My partner and I both have these. Sometimes we want to listen to the same music when we’re riding together. For some reason, the buds will throw off my vestibular system when exercising for extended periods and makes my RPE go up. Definitely an n=1 experience.
I have these (+ soundbar) for my other TV. I get frustrated that I can’t stream whatever audio is coming from my phone (or computer); it has to go through the app.
- My Vizio soundbar allows quick and direct connection to a phone/mobile device with nothing in the middle. Super quick for use that way or TV audio source. I’d have to search on a model, but it was on sale for around $120 USD at Costco one winter. I got one for our main TV and one for the workout room.
From a quick search, I think this is it:
We have a Roam SL. That will accept input over BT. From there you can stream it to all other Sonos devices on your network.
Earbuds can work great, but one should try them before investing money in good ones.
I for one don’t like them as my ears do get really sweaty during workout to the point that the earbuds slide out.
Sure, that’s a worthwhile consideration. But “trying” ear buds is tricky to a degree since not many places offer any of these for in-person testing prior to purchase. An alternate of testing budget ones (wired that are dirt cheap, some wireless are not terribly expensive) may not indicate how well a given wireless setup at a different price point might work. Differences in size, fit and weight are notable between so many models. Outside of actual testing, checking reviews is very worthwhile for questions like this.
Broadly speaking, there are “sport” models with a mix of methods like sticky rubber to even more elaborate retention methods (Bose as one example) to combat sweat. So the issue can be overcome.
Depending on where a person buys, use of return policies is a consideration as it ever is, so I think this is a problem with reasonable solutions for those that want this type of option.
I can’t stand ear buds. I use Beats Studio 3 over ear headphones and wouldn’t go with anything else. Sure, they get a little sweaty but they’re just so much more comfortable. Plus I don’t wake the house up by blasting music.
My Christmas present was clearing out the kiddo’s junk and reclaiming a corner of the basement. Scored a couple of TVs on after-Xmas deals and have Apple TV hiding behind the screens courtesy of in-law Christmas cash.
Have a cubby storage bench coming tomorrow to hold shoes and resistance bands and whatever else will fit. My LBS gave me back my cracked bike frame after the warranty replacement arrived so I’m going to hang it on my side in a makeshift wall art memorial.
