Masters Cyclist Training Plans and TrainerRoad Product Updates! – Ask a Cycling Coach Podcast 448

If they are uploaded, yes they should. First iteration might just be cycling but in a meeting today I heard they were adding running stress into the data warehouse.

Please make this dev talk a regular format at least once every quarter year (personally I’d prefer even weekly  )! Much appreciated even if I’m disappointed about the long wait for WLv2.

Could we have some automated run TSS calculation or at least a direct way to set run TSS from the calendar with one click. Now you have to open each run individually to set its TSS which is so annoying.

Thanks - hadn’t noticed that before. TBH - I’d given up on using plan builder after it didn’t fit my needs originally. Looks like there have been some previous updates which I missed.

If only I’d known this a couple of weeks ago when manually setting up my winter plans :joy:

I’m still looking forward to the new update though - looks like it will be even more useable for non-race/event orientated riders.

Are swim workouts being uploaded? They aren’t shown on our calendars. It would be awesome to just be able to see my completed swims on the new calendar.

AFAIK only rides and runs are shown. But it would be great if other (endurance) activities were shown as well. Personally I would like to have XC Skiing. Now I have to use multiple calendars for planning my activities.

Yup, this why I still just use TrainingPeaks

Intervals.icu is a cheaper and better alternative in my opinion.

Can I please have this now? I’ll deal with the bugs.

Thanks to Nate and crew for sharing the visuals. Those were great.

So I finally get red light / green light now. So conceptually, is it something akin to a WHOOP recovery score?

Is it scoring the amount of planned TSS load?
My body’s ability to perform on a given day?
Or some combination?

My OG subscription just expired, but this is making me re-up and is what keeps me coming back to TR. @Nate_Pearson I love the transparency from you and the whole TR team, it makes you guys a very easy company to want to support!

really like the update AND the concept of regular (quarterly? semi-annually?) Product Update Podcasts. Makes us all feel included. Did a pause in training at the end of Sept so perfect timing for me to start a Masters Plan!

@Nate_Pearson just rewatching the podcast on YT (listened only yesterday). The calendar updates look great also.

Is there any way, or any thought to expanding to, view our rides on TR further back than 12 months?

As I understand it you keep the ride data (to feed the machine etc), but I can’t seem to easily go back and look at the TR workouts that I did during my most productive block. I can go back on Intervals.ICU but the graph is not as straight forward, nor does it have the targets etc. Or on Strava, but that’s much worse to scroll back on.

I love the all in one system that is TR, but is seems some of the analysis features are less prominent? I can’t seem to select an interval, or highlight an area of a workout, or ride, for the statistics. Is this coming back?

FYI - you can do both of these things on the website, just not on mobile. I just did it and can confirm that both work

Ah, thanks!

That’s a bummer. Good to know it’s available somewhere I guess.

Did my eyes deceive me or did I see a green sticky on the Miro Board with reference to “projected FTP” when building a plan?

I notice the “Show Adapted Plan” toggle at the top right.

I am hopeful that this will allow us to go and look at the vanilla plan vs the current plan and see how very badly we had skewed it by complying 100% with our favourite workouts and ignoring our least favourite.

This would be very useful as a lookback reference point.

I was looking at all the Miro stickys for clues. Saw some if/then about the user being older than 50. Don’t know if I like that. Lol

Yeah, I saw the same thing. The “automatically apply masters plan to 50+” thing is definitely going to enrage some people on this very forum.

I think that’s exactly why Nate opened the episode the way he did. He’s warming us all up to some inconvenient truths.
