“Nate is faster than you…at elevation.”
If you fall down, get up again.
Not an exact quote but adapted from this:
In that last interval set of each workout, remind yourself that it’s ‘this’ one that really counts. It’s always the last hill repeat, the last interval, the last week of your build cycle that really makes the difference. So dig deep in that last effort in order to really get the most out of the effort.
We all know, the last interval always hurts the most. Therefore my mantra:
It’s always the last interval which causes the adaptions.
Just used it today, 4x10 threshold intervals. The last few minutes hurt. The mantra helped.
I like this one from Sufferfest - IWBMATTKYT
I have an inner David Goggins say stuff to me to get through the hard stuff. It really helps on a ramp test
“Stop being a B!tch”,
“you don’t know me son”
This format was such a presence during my middle school through high school years in every classroom, locker room, gym, etc, that I’ve really preferred the parodies ever since. Good one, @Stephensjer.
“Pain is just weakness leaving the body”.
I don’t know why, but this one works for me, makes it seem like there is a point to the suffering. Apart from just enjoying suffering…
When it hurts, I tell myself I’m not going to quit and remind myself that only when I keep going after wanting to quit am I actually getting any benefit from the workout. And I have wanted to quit nearly every workout, but have not. Listening to Pantera or Meshugah also helps.
“to give less than your best is to sacrifice the gift”
If it doesn’t challenge you - it doesn’t change you.
You don’t get what you wish for. You get what you work for.
Every minute you hang in there makes you a stronger, tougher cyclist than you were yesterday.

Fire Is The Cleanser.
Or, as Coach Chad would call it, progressive overload
I’m pretty sure it was Coach Chad who said this on a podcast, and whether it was meant to be motivational or not, I find myself repeating it in my head on a number of occasions when things get tough!
“Acknowledge the pain but don’t let it consume you”
I quite like this one from Muhammad Ali;
“I don’t count my sit-ups; I only start counting when it starts hurting because they’re the only ones that count.”
I use it for any sort of intervals.
Iron sharpens iron.
