Absolutely - I am well aware of that
There are a couple of notable outliers, the rose and the merida, at either end of the Endurance to Aero spectrum.
The rest are more of a mixed bag, I’ve looked for racey bikes with some aero credentials, that wouldn’t break me if I rode them on the local roads for more than an hour or 2.
(the lapierre is just a big unknown for now. I just like the looks of it )
I know what I’m looking for, I just don’t know what bike can deliver that
The surrounding area is pretty flat, so lightweight is not the be all and end all in my requirements.
The lightweight bikes that are on the list are there because they seem to be, first and foremost, good race bikes.
Aero is high on the list, but shouldn’t be at the detriment of the ride quality.
As mentioned before, the asphalt around here is pretty dire at times, and even though plush tyres would go a long way towards alleviating some of the rough, a non-compliant frame would probably still beat me up
I tend to sway the same way too, but including the Focus in the lot.
The Canyon looks meh (to me)
Likewise, the Rose wouldn’t make me go out on a wintery Tuesday night.
The Merida is probably too much to handle for me, it does look sexy as hell, but I should stay aware of my limits.
The Lapierre is still an unknown, at least for now.
Having added the aircode to the Geometry geeks db, it looks at least as challenging as the Merida.
Ok, another one bites the dust then
We’ll get there, eventually.
From your list I would go for Orbea (customization and tire clearance with compliance) or Addict (Wroclaw is flat as a pancake but 1h with a car land you are in Sowie Mountains or you can always go into Karkonosze mountains and Addict is a very pretty, racy bike but aero cues).
I’ve reached out to both (i’m not even sure what the difference is, these days. They seem to be operating together )
I’ve been in touch with a shop further out, who told me they expect stocks end of October.
I’d rather shop local however, so let’s see
In a similar position to the OP and have just ordered the Orbea Orca M20i LTD with custom paint job. The completely concealed cables and ability to chose stem length, bar width and crank length amongst other things is invaluable. Plus they look ace…and we all know that is all that matters!
Upgrading from a supersix Evo (the older, better one) and even though I’m sure the new ones ride great I just hate how they look anf of all the bikes around at the moment I think their paint work/livery is terrible.
out of curiosity: did you get any fancy upgrade(s)?
I’m looking at the wheels, but upgrading to the vision doesn’t seem to be that good value, considering it’s close to RRP - in which case I’d rather have the dumb wheels that come with the bike to use as training wheels and get myself whatever wheels i can get for the value
Decision, decision, still waiting to see if i can find a komodo addict before i take the plunge on the Orbea
the wheels are the biggest downside of Orbea. I would go with stock fulcrums and buy the exact wheels you want later. This is my plan for Orbea if I take the plunge.
It comes with vision carbon 40mm wheels which seem like great wheels. I may swap them for the new zipp303s wheels as they are a similar price point and the bike shop would do that however I’d have to commit to going completely tubeless if so!
No fancy upgrades, not much else I could really add/replace. Upgraded 28mm tyres is about all lol!
Ah, yes, the LTD does come with the fancy wheels (otherwise you can add them to the “normal” 20i)
I was also wondering if it was worth adding the FSA powerbox crankset
Still debating what to do. I’d rather not rush, and it gives me loads of time to play with MyO
