how about the princeton carbon works wheelset? they have a couple of wheelsets that look good.
I have the ses 5.4 disc (love them) and on my first few rides I noticed the cross wind but not it does not bother me or even notice it. I personally think this wheel is the perfect width.
The 7.8 are overkill unless you do tts or flat rides all the time. But I would still enjoy them and even those the wind I could get used to.
Pic of my bike with them that been putting to work for over a year now. Enve told me to forego the Chris King hub unless you are ok with maintenance which I would rather not.
Good luck with whatever you choose.
Yeah, I think thatās unfortunately the case. Pinarello and many other manufacturers missed the boat on wider tires. Still, it is a very nice bike.
Yupā¦ same with my wifeās 2018 Cervelo S5. 23mm is widest we can do in the rear without frame rub. 25mm in the front. Tire width will be the driving factor in us moving to all disc brake bikes. Being able to run 28-30mm tires on fast road bikes is a big advantage as often as āRoadā stage races are now including gravel sections.
Ha yah and I realized I was actually adding a year to its age. My bike is only 2.5yo (dec 2018) and I paid 18.5k+ for the entire thing. Assumed it was some sort of investment that would allow me to avoid constant future upgrades but I was clearly mistaken.
I know, itās a great comfort to know that Iām not going to break my wheels by sprinting at 90kg+
And theyāre great in crosswinds.
Hey just figured Iād give an update here.
I got the Rovalās shortly after my last post here and have since broken many different PRs with them.
They feel fast as hell, seem to ride nicer than the ENVE 3.4s, and look nice.
The hubs are absurdly loud which discourages one to stop pedaling so there is also thatā¦
Not even sure I will be putting the ENVEās back on nowā¦
That settles it, ride what feels fastest
Howās it going after a few months with the Roval Rapide CLX?
Everything I said in the last post still holds true. They ride well and feel fast. I continue to break PRs. The hubs continue to be annoyingly loud, but I no longer have to shout at anyone when I am coming up behind them. I simply stop pedaling for a second.
ENVEs remain in the boxā¦
Good to hear this positive report. Iāve just placed an order for a set of Aeolus Pro 51 TLR Disc wheels. Hopefully due to arrive in store in early December. My current tyre of choice is Conti GP5000 so interesting to hear they go on ok; Iāve had some āissuesā when trying to refit the tyres to my current wheels post innertube replacement - particularly out on the road when dealing with a puncture
I will report back on how they fit / ride etc. Iām a heavier rider (94kg) so will be interesting to see how they fair.
Iāve got the same wheels and am heavier than you. These wheels are fantastic!! GP5000 TL werenāt too hard to mount, Schwable Pro Ones were easier.
Theyāre fast, light, and the hub isnāt super loud. I love them!
Iād be interested to hear how you rated the Schwalbe on terms of comparative speed / durability to the GP5K?
I have lot more time on the GP5000 TL. I only started with the Pro Ones about a month and a half ago because the GP5000 TL were either hard to find or too expensive. Also, I was happy to have tanwalls on my black Roubaix
I donāt think Iām losing any speed with with Schwables, and theyāre quite comfortable (on par with the Conti in my experience). Canāt speak to durability yet.
At the time, I got 4 of the Schwables delivered for about $55/tire while my LBS had GP5000 TL for $95/tire. That made it an easy decision for me!
Thatās a compelling difference in price!
DT Swiss hubs, are easy to quiet down. No tools necessary. Just yank hard on the cassette and itāll expose the drive rings, and you can add some grease to quiet it down.
Just in case someone comes in and reads this, I found the Royal CLX50 to be more twitchy in crosswinds than an Enve 5.6 Disc. Of course supposedly the Rapide CLXs were designed to solve that.
Glad youāre enjoying the wheels!
Yep, those counterfeit Schwables are pretty cheap. Real clever branding by the counterfeiters, reminds me of counterfeit Sonny, KDK and Maxell cassette tapes floating around in the 80s. The real Schwalbes probably cost a bit more.
Huh?
@FrankTuna
Can I just say, I think you have my dogās long lost twin
Off topic, yes, yes it is. But too crazy not to point out. Back to your regularly scheduled thread.
Oh my what a cutie
I love the crazy moustache!!!
