That strava ride is not an outstanding testimony to the accuracy of Wahoo Elemnt Bolt GPS tracking.
Meh. Strava/smartphone does the exact same thing. Tech limitations.
Right at threshold for an hour. Nice work Ollie!
to be fair to GPS… it was not exactly designed to work indoors
As I said above it’s the model that allows GCN to be a thing. I’m also not accusing them of being dishonest as the advertising element is so obvious. I’m not naive enough to think they do it out of the goodness of their hearts.
However, it’s a viewing preference issue and you obviously have a much higher tolerance for relentless advertising in content than I do.
Just for reference Dan Bigham just uploaded some hour record practice. 52.6km
Discovery becoming the main shareholder has its benefits. Did I hear that they were showing all the grand tours through the GCN app this year ? If so anybody know how much coverage ?
I hadn’t heard this. I know for cross, using a VPN got you access to just about every cross race, even the World Cup races that NBC Sports Gold has here in the states. Maybe it’ll be the same for road.
The GPS gets a little weird in corners, too. I ride on an outdoor velodrome, and was instructed early on to use a speed sensor rather than relying on GPS for speed. Apparently the turns on the track screw up the GPS. When I look at the GPS traces from my velodrome rides on my Garmin, they are definitely a bit funky.
Ollie failed to give my bike a super nice when I sent it in to the bike vault, for this alone I will hate him to the day I die!
It’s not your bike he didn’t like, it’s Jon’s bell
I don’t see any problem at all with GCN’s sponsored content. They’re at least upfront about it (although I suspect the “paid advertisement” warnings are legally mandated). They have a large staff and it costs a ton of money to make these videos. Plus I am 100% certain that the main channel is subsidizing all the other small channels (e.g. GCN Japan, the electric MTB channel).
If anything my only complaint is that many of the products they advertise are completely unaffordable for the vast majority of the population.
haha! but seriously, if no one else has brought it up yet… IS sufferfest better than TR? i say this in the most controversial way possible!
Exactly!!
They were
Sufferfest is decidedly worse than TR for one reason and one reason only…stupid nicknames. Sufferlandriansistas or whatever they call people who use the service. Suffermeister? Sufferfestrians?
Anyway, stupid nicknames should be outlawed. Thank God TR doesn’t try the smarmy “nickname” shtick to “unite us all”. I like being referred to as a “user” (like in Tron).
Almost bought a Garmin Edge 530 because of “wahooligan”. For shits sake.
And back in 2015 as a student he did this.
Or ‘‘Three Men in a Bath’’ for an even more obscure reference…
Originally I thought I enjoyed GCN because it was quality cycling content etc. Recently I’ve realised I don’t enjoy it as much without Matt Stephens & Dan Lloyd…
I like GCN … Just saying
