Paris Olympics 2024 (spoilers)

How are you all watching the Olympics (without commercials)?

I don’t have cable. I’m thinking that I could either do a YoutubeTV free trial or just sign up for a month of Peacock. I’m leaning towards Peacock. Any thoughts?

Peacock with the specific event stream seems fine. The TT had almost zero commercials (and zero production, which was to my preference)

I saw they had some combo stream of cycling and other sports from NBC or something, but I navigated directly to the TT event stream and it was fine

Canadian broadcast via cbc gem is free but has the occasional very short add. Seems automated as the timing was a bit strange sometimes but for a free broadcast they were pretty unobtrusive.

Do you need some account? I wonder if that can that be done with a VPN?

Edit - was able to make an account and use it with my VPN. Thank you Canada!

Three times and a bike change.

Cost him Bronze for sure.

Silver maybe but probably not.

12 seconds behind Ganna - stopping, changing bike, and then getting back up to speed must have cost more time than that. Boardman on commentary was saying minimum 15 seconds.

Real shame but at 20 he should get plenty more chances.

In the UK, the BBC doesn’t have any adverts ever, it’s funded by a license fee

However there were a number of notable cutaways to French architecture at critical points of the final racers which probably have something to do with adverts

Maybe, but I reckon stopping you gain 6 - 8 back easy.

Would have been close, not Gold close though.

The swimming is awesome

400m FS final, half the field faster than WR pace(!) Germany’s first swimming gold in forecer

I will probably just buy Peacock for the month. Canada is ok but it’s mostly live stuff and the ads seemed frequent (though short). I’m not seeing recordings of past events on Canada’s site nor the ability to sort by sport.

I watched the ITT on Tiz this morning which was good because the announcers were the usual Eurosport cycling announcers I’m used to.

Peaty and Qin through 100m BS (different) semis, Peaty looks like he has the edge. In numbers only 0.07s in it, but Peaty was taking it easy in the last 25… Gonna be a great final tomorrow. :man_swimming::man_swimming:

Watched replays via vpn to canada without issue… no commercials, good commentary. Really happy for Grace and sad she’s retiring when she’s having such a great year (she doesn’t want one season superdomestiquing for Demi? I need to see a strong challenge to SDWorx dominance!)

Just watched the replay on NBC and they kept cutting in to show basketball highlights and then actually went away from the TT to show the final minutes of the basketball game and then came back with totally different leaders. Basketball was live on another channel, and if I’d wanted to watch it, I’d have been watching that channel :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Guess I’m going to pay to watch the live Peacock broadcast.

Chris Boardman handled those brilliantly I thought

“As lovely as this architecture is I think we would prefer to see the racing”

I subscribed to Peacock app this morning to watch while on the trainer. I paid for the cheaper version so get commercials; however to their credit, they bunched the commercials before and after the events and there didn’t seem to be commercials once the TT started.

I paid for the commercial-free peacock streaming last summer oly and they still had breaks for the commercials, the screen was just black :person_facepalming:

Peacock. I hate you. Whyyyyyy do you start on lap 2 and have bob roll mispronouncing pucks name.

The god damn app said the race was at 7:30 (central) but the coverage starts in the middle of lap 2. WTF?!?

Damn race is already over…PFP is gone. Was hoping Puck could give her a good run, but not looking like it. We’ll see if Haley can claw her way onto the podium, but that is going to be a challenge.
