Pinning Race Bib

Awesome thanks, Ill send you a PM on here or an email.

This appears to answered by a few… but here is another one.

I use fabric grade double sided tape and place it where I want it on my jersey.
I then place my beloved RaceDots without worrying about the Race number flopping about.

Found this helps keep the Number flat and aero on my back!

When done, I remove the number and use baby powder on the tape which covers up the glue.

That then gets pressed between a pile of heavy books for a while to get it back to flat… and then finally joins the Wall of Numbers!

FYI, I’ve used 3M spray just fine for a bunch of races directly on my jersey but it ruined my goretex shakedry jacket. The goretext outer layer peeled right off with the bib number. Ouch. Expensive mistake.

Entered into a Grand Fond first race of the year… In past races, I have use team kits that I got for free and had plenty to spare. This year I’m not racing for a team. I have forgotten that were stuck in the 1900s and pin plate numbers to the back of our best… I have new cycling kits and cost me a lot and are very comfy and don’t want to be pitting pins in the back of them has anyone had any luck with any products out there to avoid this? I want to say this was mentioned in an older podcast years ago maybe. the race is this weekend and it just dawned on me while planning… if there is a product on amazon maybe i can 2 day if im lucky… thanks for suggestions

@Minihack I moved your post under the existing discussion that applies and has many suggestions to consider.

i bought this double sided tape from amazon.

look it up: “AJ Sign World Best 5” Ultra-Thin Permanent Double-Sided Tape for Arts, Crafts, Photography, Scrapbooking, Tear-by-Hand, Paper Backing, Documents, All Purpose (5-Inch by 164-Feet/55 Yards)"

It hasn’t arrived yet, but I’m going to give it a test run…
i have experienced just how strong it is for sticking so I have very high hopes. It is very thin but at the same time when it sticks, it feels very secure.

“officially”. it is not designed to survive in wet. So it may come off with sweat, we will see how the test goes.

Aaron - I do two races (CX) per day. Would it be possible to use my number on one skin suit and then put it on another skin suit using the original application of tape? How much does rain/mud affect being able to reuse the tape if I am putting it on a dry kit (that’s why I change). I am interested in trying this as our bibs are cloth and by the end of the season it is so stiff/full of Goo Gone it doesn’t stick very well.

Thanks,

Sarah

I wanted to update people on this double sided tape… It sticks great and maintains adhesion through sweat and cyclocross races… I will still want to test it during next summer races when it really gets seriously hot and humid though…

I was so bored this summer, I bought a pack of neodymium magnets to try with bib numbers. Holy mother of polarity! They worked great. On both a 60-mile and 100-mile event, I had zero issues. 1/2 x 1/8 Inch Strong Neodymium Rare Earth Disc Magnets N52 (24 Pack) | totalElement

I’m done with pins and Scotch 77 (?) which was a gummy mess for me.

For grins and giggles, my son used the same magnets for a ultra-marathon he ran this fall. Even with a hydration vest, the magnets worked fine and his bib numbers didn’t budge.

I have no idea of these magnets are ‘legal’ in various sanctioning bodies. I have no idea if they’re safe when pressed against your body for 5 hours. You might even get better cellular reception with them  YMMV
