πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰ Polarized Training Plans Are Here! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

This is very exciting @Jonathan and @Nate_Pearson!

I’m actually going into week 1 of a build block next week and I’m tempted to try Polarized Build. Just one thing, any chance you can guarantee  I’ll also be using Adaptive Training by the time I might have to tackle McKittrick in week 7? That’s looks downright scary! :scream:

Last I looked the typical week has 7 days not 6 :man_shrugging:

Edit: Sunday on this week is a 5 hour ride

I think this might work for me because almost all of my riding outside is done climbing up mountainous canyons. So I have a lot of descending too. It is hard to stay in the lower zones for an extended period of time. I will have to do more research but this might have been how I was training before signing up for TrainerRoad. I would basically push the pace up canyon climbs between 45 min - 2 hours in duration and then cruise down and spin it out on the ride along more flat routes. I did a 3-4 harder rides per week and had a few recovery days.

I am looking at these and realizing why I will likely have to stay with the normal TR-i training plans. I have life commitments that prevent me from sitting on the bike for 3 hours. I could do 1.5 hours a day and try to break the long rides up and spread them out over multiple days to get the volume in but This may lead to me missing out on the intended gains expected from a 3-4 hour coffee ride though

Possibly, looks like the display is cutting off your Sunday ride. With the 5 hours on Sunday it brings you up to 11.30 for the week.

So where would these plans fit in on the base/build/specialty spectrum?
Or are they instead intended to be repeated ad infinitum and replace the β€˜old’ progression?

The 6 weeks plans are base, the 8 weeks plans are build. FAQ mentions to use standard plans for speciality phase

I can see this option on my iPhone but can’t click it - is this what you’re referring to or potentially a bug on my end?

Looks like a pretty decent framework to get through the summer with plenty time to just enjoy riding. Curios to see the outdoor version

Really interested to see how TR users find these plans and how they adapt.

Not going to lie, I don’t have the time (day-to-day) to commit to this type of plan. That said, if I’m honest, I think I’d get chewed up and spat out. From what I’ve seen, those plans are no joke! Fair play to you brave trailblazers :+1:

Right! Thinking the same, this is brilliant in summer. You can sub the VO2 days for a hard ride or KOM fest, whatever floats your boat, but having the plan there does keep you focused on building that big aerobic base.

Interesting how something as simple as having the plan laid out for you makes you more accountable. My problem every summer is too many hard rides and I get stale fast.

What’s next? Four 20-min FTP tests in a row?

Thank you TrainerRoad!

4h rides on a Trainer? Wow! Do you make Breaks? My bones would hurt so much i can not sustain it.

Those PT plans are perfect for long outside rides and 2 indoor rides! I’ll do one in the spring/summer.

Highland says, hold my beer.

Looking forward to this one. Unlikely I’d do a 7hr+ ride unless it was prescribed, though a great reason to get up early and hit the road on a Sunday!

Go to your β€œAccount” on the web version (not the app) and enable β€œEarly Access”

It is specifically not a Specialty block and should be used for base or build. Here’s the info from Jonathan’s original post.

I think its going to be really interesting to see the data on who decides to do the long 3-5 indoor rides.
