Had it on while working this morning. What I’m not sure I’ll ever understand is how a course that has to get neutralized is ever approved in the first place and it’s not until ~60k to go that they finally adjust the course.
I was watching and I distinctly remember seeing 62.7k to go, then I took a 5 minute call, looked back up and it was ~19k to go. I was working through in my mind how an hour disappeared and alcohol wasn’t involved.
Great women’s race for the CX WC today….down to the last lap and a very late wobble from Brand (although I think Fem was the stronger rider by that point anyway).
Was hoping for surprise Puck Pieterse win, but alas……
The front line at the start was kinda hilarious as it was just all orange jerseys, except for 2. Dutch women sweep the top 4 places in the race.
I was rooting for Puck, too, but once she was out was hoping that Lucinda could pull it off. Was really hard to watch the podiums-she was really uoset.
Womens juniors race was equally good (got up at 5 to watch since a former teammate was racing)
Wout with a sizable tear on the left side of his shorts….didn’t see what happened, though. Maybe that explains his poor start when he was way down in the mid-20’s.
Not that it would have made a difference……this result was inevitable.
Listened to Payson’s podcast episode from last week with Thomas deGendt…he said that MVDP is going to Traka this year so he can show off his jersey at a true gravel race.
Will be awesome to see him there…not certain if he will be doing to 200km or 360km event.
Also looking forward to see deGendt tackle Unbound later this year.
Cue the tubeless tire hysteria…a seemingly random blowout in the sprint at Stage 2 of the Etoille de Besseges caused a rider to go down ~100m from the line.
From the overhead shot, you can see he never crosses wheels with anyone else and there is a spray of sealant from the rear tire as he loses control. It also seems like something else is in the shot, but I don’t know if that is more sealant or something he hit, which caused the blowout.
Super interested to see how the tour of Oman pans out this year. I think it starts on Saturday?
Slight vested interest as I had the good fortune to spend a short while riding with one of the Team Jayco AlUla riders last weekend in Spain and he was training hard and looking fit and ready for the event.
Cyclingnews has (finally?) published a list of which streaming service will cover which races in the US for 2025.
These are their lists of “major” races. This is not every race and not even every World Tour race. Ex: UAE Tour is on Max. More details in the article.
Major races on FloBikes 2025
Tour de La Provence, February 14-16
Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, March 1
Omloop Het Nieuwsblad Women, March 1
Gent-Wevelgem, March 30
Gent-Wevelgem Women, March 30
USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships, May 19-26
Yeah, that is pretty much the same breakdown as last year……and while not listed above, it is worth mentioning that FLO also has Flanders on their list of races.
In general, you can break it down as follows for the US:
I think this is a first. Tour of Oman is doing live streaming on YouTube. I guess nobody wanted to buy the streaming rights. I don’t speak Arabic, but it is still easier to understand than Sean Kelly.
Pog racing Roubaix is definitely a ‘when’ not an ‘if’. Idk if he’ll do it this year cause he did a similar pot-stirring post a couple years ago and he didn’t end up racing. He just knows how to get people worked up.
But they made a good point on Escape that he might skip it for a similar reason that he didn’t do the Vuelta. UAE brought on several big classics dudes whole probably want to go for Roubaix (Wellens, Vermeersch and Nils Politt) and he might want to keep them happy.
But damn if I wouldn’t be excited as hell to watch him trade blows with MVDP, Wout, and the rest.
Agreed that it is a question of when, not if…just not certain that it will be this year. The only reason I think he might do it this year is because he has the rainbow jersey and he seems to value it and representing it well…so the idea of wearing it in Roubaix is likely appealing.
Really good race today in the Classica Jaén (the Spanish Strade Bianche).
Visma made a mess of it, using their strongest rider (Tullet) to set up Wout, who clearly didn’t have it. They swapped roles in the last 40K, and Wout did an admirable job pulling at the front for a long time, but by then Tullet was out of bullets.
Ineos took the win with Kwiatkowski, but they lost Bernal too. He apparently crashed somewhere in the final KM’s and broke his collarbone. Damn shame because he rode really well today and was clearly on good form after winning the Colombian national jerseys.
