average speed 72.2 . I have to pedal real hard to get to that speedā¦ on a 10% downhill slope lol
Shall we make some predictions for Omloop?
Iāll start.
I will go for Alaphillipe as my favourite. He has been in good form in recent races and I love his race style.
As a backup, Iāll go for Mads Pederson.
Obvious pick would be MvdP (if heās allowed to race ) My sort of underdog pick would be Greg van Avermaet. He seems really fit compared to the previous years.
On the womenās side itās really hard to tell. All the big names are there. To me no clear favourite. Just too many top riders. But my long-shot underdog pick is Demi Vollering. She definitely has a big win overdue.
MVP is not racing Omloop, but is racing Kurne-Brussels-Kurne.
Iād really like to see Oliver Nassen finally get a decent winā¦hoping with GvA racing alongside him he can manage to sneak away.
But Allaphilippe is certainly the 5 star favorite tomorrow.
Hard to look past Alaphilippe as people have saidā¦ but DQS have so many options, if someone like Asgreen gets in a break in the last third of the race and it doesnāt get organised behind heād have a great chance. GVA for once has a strong team mate in Naasen for a similar scenario.
PhilGil for the emotional win though.
Yeah, that is where DQS has all the cardsā¦no one wants to do the work to pull Allaphillipe up and the break goes away. They just have so many cards to play.
What are some good YouTube channels for race highlights? I found FloBikes but their videos suck to listen to in headphones cause all the dialogue goes to the right ear and the SFX to the left.
Velon seems decent too. Prefer something without a host(s) talking for half the time and then showing 1 minute of highlights
I think Eurosport is putting out highlights on youtube as well. not sure though
tizcycling is the only way to go.
What a textbook race by SDworx once again. Is anyone gonna be able to stop them this year? The line-up is even stronger than last year.
On similar note: Doe anyone know what happened to AvV and her movistar squad? Other than the 2nd place finisher, they were nowhere to be seen
Welp, I had the right team for Omloop, but clearly not the right riderā¦
Although if anyone had picked Ballerini for Omloop, I would have said they were high. K-B-K, sureā¦but not Omloop. I canāt think of a time I saw a bunch gallop at that race.
Good raceā¦donāt think Kristoff could have touched Ballerini in the sprint, but that was a horrific time for a puncture!!
Cracking finish to K-B-K today, which I eventually managed to watch once GCN salvaged the replay footage (their live coverage was a complete mess ā¦ see other threads).
Amazing result for Pidcock to finish 3rd in a bunch sprint against guys weighing probably 20+kg more than him.
before folks say this is because the omloop wasnāt WWT but the mens was WT, the equivalent WWT prize is ā¬1,395
also important to note that the original tweet isnāt comparing like for like - its pre deductions for mens, and post deduction for women (ā¬1,025, not that it really makes a difference in terms of gross disparity)
Itās over-simplistic. (which of course is the nature of social media)
Wonder how many more people watch the menās race vs the womenās, and how much more the sponsors pay the male athletes because of increased exposure, and how much of that prize money comes from sponsors. Not saying itās right, but gender aside if I had two athletes I was looking to sponsor and one competes in a sport with 2x more viewers and exposure for me as a sponsor, why would I pay them the same? Thereās a reason TV spots cost more during prime hours vs 3:30am on PBS
fair point! only, the womenās race had almost 2x the viewers as the men in the Netherlands
this is also about the prize pools, not sponsorship of a team (which is a separate issue; WWT teams currently have lower minimum salaries than mens, but they will gradually increase that until they match in 2024)
Well thatās just one country, not the entire viewership. As far as the prize pools, where does the money come from for them?
And in that case they picked the better race to watch.
