I disagree with ‘lift heavy stuff’. Most people have not built up the required joint strength to lift heavy weights and many people injure themselves going too heavy, too soon. You can get an incredible strength workout with body-weight only, with no equipment to purchase, except a pull-up bar. Find what works for you, and give it everything you’ve got.

I ran my second fastest half marathon ever off pure bike fitness (no plan in particular - I was just unemployed and riding a ton of miles). Adjusted for elevation it was probably my fastest half marathon (1 minute slower, 4,500 ft higher).

I could barely walk for close to a week after.
