Ramp test results

@MI-XC So I just finished SSB MV2…I fudged my FTP after SSB LV1 (from 142 to 145) and was able to complete all the workouts as planned (I think I turned one workout down 1%). Did the ramp test today and FTP was 146, so I either went up 1W (from 145 fudged) or 4W (142 actual) depending on how you look at it. Now what??? Start General Build phase? I am primarily a cyclocross racer but I will be doing a 225 mile single day ride in mid-August (roughly 24 weeks away). Should I fudge my FTP again (with the thought that I am a bad test taker) and see if I can complete the workouts? Thank you for any advice!

Yeah not sure why you’re struggling with the FTP test, but maybe you just underperform. Pro tip: when doing the FTP ramp test 19:30 is the break even point. So every second after 19:30 is your FTP going up. Use that for motivation. Also, the ramp test should be a max effort. Don’t stop even if your cadence drops into the 60s rpms. Keep pushing and use self talk and mantras until you’re smashed.

Aside from all of that, you should have improved your FTP after SSB1 & 2. So move on to GBMV and increase your FTP by another small amount, maybe the nice round number 150.

Shoot! I thought 18:30 was the magic number. I made it to 20:15. I normally pedal around 100rpm…I had no idea I could go as low as 60rpm! I stopped when my power started dropping. What do you think? Should I test again?

If you can test in ERG that’s better as it will hold you to the intended power. If not, once you can’t keep the power number or close to it, then I guess you should stop. Test again if you’re up to it, or just manually adjust your FTP.

To further on what MI-XC said above me… when you can’t hold the target power, your assessment is done.
I’ve seen a few people keep going under intended power and drag out the test longer… there’s no reason to do this.

If you can grind out a few more seconds/minutes with a lower cadence and hit intended power, then by all means do so! Cadence is totally up to you - just as long as it is a maximal effort.

Just FYI, but you don’t need to post to follow, just set the status at the bottom to Watching

On a dumb trainer. I wasn’t able to hit the next increase and kept pedaling at the same wattage.

Little spike is due to shifting gears, I have a Stages and it can be twitchy. Will round FTP up and see how the workouts go. Thanks for your insight!
