How you collecting and analyzing this data? Are you just looking at a screen and/or bike computer?
I am doing Shasta tonight and use the H3 to record the data via the TR app. I will record the 4iii left crank data on Zwift and will post the comparison.
Disclaimer: I am not concerned with variances as I use powermatch 100% of the time but a good test for others to see. I did calibrate my H3 yesterday after a 45 minute ride (which felt awesome trainer wise) via the Saris app.
Hi again. Just completed Shasta and i really like the H3 and how smooth it feels. I was running TR workout with the Saris H3 and then running zwift in the background with my 4iiii.
To me the power between the two were close enough and I did like how the saris handled erg mode. Below are the two photos to compare. I did not run them through an analyzer. I know before there was a cadence issue but did not see any issues on the TR side and matched what my 4iiii was doing on zwift so that must have been fixed with the firmware they released.
Drop out on 4iiii and H3 was due to me getting off the bike to grab something around the 36th minute. Zwift was bt and TR was ant+. Power and cadence graph are pretty close and NP was 211 for the Saris and 214 for the 4iiii. Max power was also pretty close.
I just received my H3 today and then spent about 2~3 hour figuring out how to put everything together. (Put the wrong adapter in the beginning and wondering why the cassette locking tool is not working
)
Iām totally new to the trainer, so Iām not sure if this unit acts normally. Looks kind of OK?
When the bike is on the trainer, itās very heavy to adjust the shifting by hand. Is there any trick to do it?
That sounds completely normal. Shifting when it is not being controlled at times will feel tough due to the really big flywheel. Enjoy your new trainer.
I“m also very happy with my newly bought H2, and the noise level is not a big problem, like you said - very overestimated in the DCR video.
About the firmware update, it didnāt work for me with the Saris app but I updated it throught the Rouvy app without problem, so try that!
Hello,
Do you use their bluegiga dongle while updating with Rouvy PC or only mobile app?
Also do you feel any small vibration thru the pedals at 80-93 cadence?
I have ANT+ doingle and built-in Bluetooth in my PC so bluegiga dongle is a little bit redundant for me if it is only choice to update.
According their support they have issue with Google - old Android versions (Saris app).
For now I checked 6.0, 7.1, 8.1 and no one can complete an update ![]()
Also Rouvy mobile app said that my trainer is up to date with 31.043 when 31.060 is the newest for now
Hi,
I donāt feel any vibrations from the pedals regardless of what cadence Iām at.
Iām using an iPhone and did the firmware update on that via bluetooth and it went very smooth. Sorry to hear that it hasnāt worked out that well for you. Maybe thereās some other more technically skilled dude on this forum who can helt you out (unfortunately Iām not).
I donāt know but maybe if you know someone that has an iphone try that. I cannot tell from your screen shot if you have the iphone app.
I know from past experience wahoo fitness app worked well with iphone but not android when doing advanced spindown.
I have done most of my updates via Android, BLE and Rouvy.
But I do think I had good success with the iPad when I did that once as well.
I still have not tried the Saris app due to apprehension from their initial rollout. Sounds like the 2.0 version is at least somewhat functional, but I still donāt trust it yet.
I have only Android phones available. No problem with calibration, only with updates.
Tried on Android with Saris and Rouvy with no luck.
Rouvy PC require their BLE dongle for updates which is not okay for me since I have in-build Bluetooth in my PC and separate ANT+ dongle. Additional BLE dongle seems redundant for just firmware updateā¦
Have communication with Saris support, but without any solution yet.
Bummer. Hopefully Saris can get you sorted.
I presume you donāt need to pay for Rouvy to use the spindown?
Correct. It can be used āfreeā via the following instructions:
Hammer Calibration in Rouvy
- Open Rouvy App
- Go to FREE RIDE
- If you have connected to Rouvy in the past your trainer should be recognized and CONNECTED. If you this is your first time you have to go through SELECT TRAINER process.
- CALIBRATE button is located under trainer name.
- Follow instructions to calibrate. Pedal to 19-23mph for duration of time requested by app. 20 seconds. But it generally takes roughly 25 or so.
- Stop pedaling when it tells you to stop pedaling.
Thanks Chad
Originally, I thought all the smart trainer can receive the ANT+ signal, collect the information and then send it out thru Bluetooth, but after a simple trial today (with my ANT+ heart strap) and some researches, I found I was wrong. It seems there are two units - North Pole CABLE and Viiiiva Heart Rate Monitor - can convert the ANT+ signal to bluetooth. Which one is more stable in transmitting the data? I already have ANT+ heart strap, ANT+ cadence & speed sensor. If CABLE is OK, I think Iāll go for it, since itās $20 cheaper.
I canāt speak for the 4iiii strap but Iāve used the North Pole CABLE for a good time without any issues.
So i am thinking this is not normal. Just started making this sound very close to my cut short disaster -2 yesterday. Not the reason I stopped but noticed it when I was stopping.
The H3 was delivered to me on 12/6 from clevertraining. I love the trainer and probably will exchange for another one but donāt want to be out of a trainer.
My first one made the same noise but they never told me what it was because that first one was returned due to belt issues. However it made the same knocking sound after an hour or so whether I pedal or not. Send the videos to Saris on facebook and see what they have to say.
Saris really dropped the ball on this, it took them 3 attempts to get me a good unit, but if it starts making these sounds itās going back, Iām demanding a refund, and buying something else from another company.
Thanks for the reply and I figured as much. It still works just the noise which I wont put up with.
I already email Saris (no facebook for me) and clevertraining. I donāt mind getting another one as clevertraining is always so good customer service wise. I just donāt want to be without a trainer.
