Does anyone have experince of uisng the Schwinn IC4/IC8 with TR ? I know the power reads high as its based off virtual power but can it connect and is it useable with TR ?
I need a bike thats affordable that both me and the wife can make use of and this seems like a good option if it works…
My brother has an IC4. I use it for TR workouts when I visit him. I’m a little perplexed on if the power reading is accurate or not? Trying to find more information on that. But to answer your question, yes it does sync to TR.
I used one for two years, initially with the Peloton app (using Kinetic to display power) and then switched to Trainerroad. After switching, I put Garmin power pedals, and the two power readings were almost identical. The issue I had with the bike that made me switch is that I couldn’t get the fit quite right and was having a lot of knee pain. But I’ve got wonky knees, so it probably isn’t a problem most people have.
@Illy619 you switched to a different trainer altogether? what did you get? did it resolve your knee pain issue?
I have the exact same scenario. Been using my Schwinn IC4 for a couple years. I used it all of 2024 with flat pedals no memorable pain. I got Garmin power pedals and clipless shoes last spring for my mountain bike and ridden the combo hard for ~9 months outdoors. No pain to report. Cleats appear to be in same position as initially set.
Within the last 6 months, i’ve begun using my Garmin power pedals on the IC4 for more accurate power data. The last 2 months since winter has hit and my 2025 training block has started, i’ve been riding the IC4 a lot more. I have significant left knee pain after indoor rides. Doing different style rides and lengths ranging from 1-1.5 hour Zone 4 intervals to 2.5 hour Zone 2-3 endurance rides.
I’ve tweaked on saddle height & fore/aft position, spacers in pedals to impact Q factor. None seem to help. I’ve gone through the fit process using the Bike Fast Fit Elite app multiple times.
i’ve had multiple hard outdoor rides sprinkled in using the exact shoe & pedal combo on the real bike without pain. I’m considering a new indoor bike, if i can’t get this resolved within the next few rides. the pain is not sustainable. tips welcome!
