Over. That’s how it’s done in Flanders. Case closed!
it depends on which one I put on first.
I usually tend to put socks under these days, but an argument in favor of putting them over is that some leg warmers tend to “bell bottom”. By putting the sock over, you can control that. You could argue that you need to pull the warmer higher up your leg, but the problem then is that you can end up with a gap of exposed skin between the bottom of the warmer and the sock.
Under if they’re black or navy. Over if they’re bright colors.
I don’t even think about it, to be honest.
If I do think about it; I would say my socks go under my tights. I’ll usually put my socks on first and then put on my long bib’s over them.
Well it was cold enough on yesterday’s ride, that they went over my leg warmers but under my tights.
Under. Wearing them over stretches the sock out and makes it unwearable once Spring rolls around and you go back to knee warmers. And it looks silly. Worse than glasses under helmet straps. The only bigger faux pas is jersey under bibs.
I’m belgian. I always put them under. But i’m french speaking, i’m not sure I count as a cyclist
Thigh high socks covering bib shorts is a true fashion statement.
Neither. My socks are not under my leggings nor over my leggings. In fact shock gasp there is a little bit of ankle showing.
I don’t care about fashion but my leg warmers are much more easy to clean and even sort of water repellent, they have zippers and are easier to put on with socks so they go over
I don’t think I’m old enough to wear socks under tights yet.
Or wear tights with zippers.
At 40 I’m getting close, though.
Although, I did wear zippered tights over my socks in the 90s when cycling. In the 90s.
I am not sure what the 90s have to do with it. A lot of brands put ankle zips on their warmer models. Fabric like Infinium is not very stretchy, so it’s either super baggy around the lower leg or ankle zips.
DILLIGAF
Seriously, really don’t care what is fashionable. I dress to comfort only.
Fair point on some deep winter tights needing a zip.
It’s a bit of a silly question, so I gave a silly answer. I’m just not there yet age-wise to put my tights over my socks on the regular.
Besides, if it’s cold and wet enough, I wear my Spatzwear overshoes which come up to just below the knee and I look even more silly; but they’re amazing and who cares.
Means must.
The way I see it, whatever keeps you warmest. We are grown men (or ladies) wearing super tight tights and you’re worried about going over or under!! Haha. We already look ridiculous, but, I gotta say, no one sees your socks as you go by them, they see your tights.
Just don’t clash your tights and jersey. Socks also gotta match the tights.
The simple solution to this: all one piece.
