Specialized Tarmac SL8 (2023)

Hehe, have to agree  Hard to say no when girlfriend and I could both get the new SuperSix with 105Di as complete bikes, €3860 (4242 USD)

As much as I’d take a SL8 in a heartbeat, I ain’t gonna pay double…

I think one issue is also that they are keeping the SL7 still, which means the SL8 will be the new “high end” one, and SL7 will be the “affordable” one.

So guessing that the SL8 with aluminium wheels and 105 Di2 will be north of 6500USD  Add 25% VAT on top of that like we have in Sweden, and yeah… no.

Looks like a cheap Chinese-mold bike to me and the 2-piece bar version looks better than the 1-piece bar version.

Not gonna discuss taste, but the rapide cockpit looks really need in person.

It looks fantastic in photos as well!

We made it to fame…

Always funny to see media (most likely under an embargo since they probably already have seen and ridden these bikes), resort to reporting the leaks found in forums :stuck_out_tongue:

I think that white one with the slammed stem looks fantastic. I like “plain” though. I know there’s a market for a pink one with topographic lines on it and neon lettering, it’s just not for me.

33% more strength-to-weight and 6% more compliance, any metrics on aero or just more aero than Venge?

I think I agree with this. Something about the way the integrated cockpit stem tapers as it moves towards the bars doesn’t look quite as good from the side angle. But I’ll save full judgement until we have better quality pictures from all angles

Not yet, but my guess is minimally more aero than the venge. As for the Tour testing protocol, the SL7 was 210W, the venge 208W. So if it really was to be 207 and below (the new Trek Madone SLR is 207) at this low of a weight, that’s a win for me.
Especially considering the Rapide CLX are among the easiest wheels to control in the wind. I’ve extrapolated a climbing build would probably be sub 6.3kg for me. A full race build (pedals, cages, mount) would be sub 6.6kg.

Thanks, that would justify an upgrade to offset the loss from loving these new Mondo tires

Definitely need to see how it looks with 1-2cm of spacers and what the local pricing is like. Here in Australia I can get a Supersix with Ultegra Di2 for $1000 less than the SL7 with Rival (not even Force). Well, I can preorder a Supersix, at least Specialized seem to be able to deliver bikes.

Abso-friggen-luetly. What a world in which I can work a desk job and nerd out about cycling!

A world in which poverty and starvation have been drastically reduced through the years.

Why would we radically change anything? Sure, we can do some things better, but there has never been a better system in the history of the earth than what we’ve had for the last couple centuries.

I do agree that we can and should shift our energy production to renewable sources, and that is happening. Cost of solar has reduced drastically.

Developing countries are industrializing much cleaner than we did.

In the us, emissions are already dropping rapidly. Why would we drastically change the system that has lifted so many out of poverty and is already moving toward sustainability?

I beg to differ in terms of Carbon Emissions. America did not mainly reduce carbon emissions by reducing consumption, increasing recycling, and switching to renewables, but by outsourcing production to china. So an American, purchasing an American Specialized Bike, will be mainly counted towards China’s emissions, not Americas.
It’s Earth Overshoot Day today, a day we haven’t improved upon in years.
Not the topic at hand, but it’s no time to celebrate either.

Actually, consumption based emissions (emissions on products we consume, even those imported from other countries) is pretty low and falling, thankfully. We do see a split and a rise between production and consumption emissions in the mid 2000s, (exactly what you were describing), but the gap has narrowed and both are falling. Consume away!

Ah yeah there was a pandemic dip and now it’s trending upwards again… Worldwide emmisions have not peaked with the current pledges ( not actual policies). We’re trending well above 2 degrees and as high as 3 degrees. The inequality in the us is trending towards gilded age Levels… The world’s poverty got better but depending on where you draw the poverty line it doesn’t look that impressive anymore especially if you exclude china, which you have to if you champion the current western system. With the current trajectory we will run into big issues…

But this isn’t really the place to discuss this…

Still important and interesting discussions, but better not in here.
On Topic: I got to say…I was very “anti SL8” at the start, but its kinda growing on me. And I should be able to rock a slammed stem. If the cockpit would come in a 38 now…and I would get my hands on a SDWORX Frameset (and they keep the colors like they are currently) :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

115/380 arriving in November.
I’ll probably put my SL7 stuff on it until then, and then sell the SL7 once the 7 once the cockpit arrives.
