Strava Estimated FTP

Uploaded all my stuff to WKO5, TTE at 272 is right about 45min. WKO mFTP is (was) 266W.

It seems that Strava is using a model similar to WKO and placing more emphasis on shorter duration efforts to round out the PDC.

I haven’t been doing any threshold type intervals in quite some time so between 15-20min and 40-60 I have a bit of drop from lacking suitable efforts. Still, with my curve relatively flat for longer efforts up to 2hrs and my power very good from 1-15min my estimated FTP ends up way higher than I’d expect. Currently I still set my zones well below the estimate and closer to my 60min power but I’m only riding to power for aerobic work anyway.

I’m kicking off my base period with today’s ramp test. Off the bike for about three weeks now, so this will be a fresh test and I can compare test results to WKO info now through the season since I’m home again. Will be interesting to track the other stuff like fatigue resistance and TTE against my ramp test. I’ll still set my FTP (and thus TR zones) manually quite a bit based on feel and workout performance. That works well for me, and I was pretty damn close to WKO’s model, the strict ramp test result, Strava, etc.

I’m skeptical of Strava’s estimation. After doing an all-out 30 minute climb (32, actually) yesterday, I got a bunch of threshold notifications… my last Ramp test was in March and it said 336 W. I’ve been training with it at 339 W since July (had a good 20-minute climb then).

I did 359 W for 32:00. In the past 6 weeks, my other bests are 619 W for 1:00, 397 W for 5:00, 388 W for 10:00, and 367 W for 20:00.

Garmin predicted: 349 W
Training Peaks predicted: 350 W
Strava predicted: 364 W!

So Garmin and TP appear to be doing just 95% of best 20-minute power (I’m guessing some rounding error accounts for the 1 W difference), but Strava is doing some very optimistic calculations (99% of 20 minute power!). Perhaps normalized power is being considered? My NP on that effort was 364 W… It’s a mystery!

TP does 95% of 20 min AFAIK. I generally get threshold update recs from TP every time I’ve set a 20min power record.

Try putting your TP info into WKO5, I’m guessing you’ll get similar results to Strava since your 1-10min power is fairly high. TP is just straight 95% of 20min so short power doesn’t come into play.

I have similar numbers to you, barring a good 20min effort outside (or anything steady 20-60min) and the results are similar. I’ve been using 340 to set zones indoors, but haven’t done intervals in ages so can’t speak to high end work. Strava puts me at 372w and WKO5 had me pretty close last I checked.
