This is a good point, the average ‘ride my bike to work’ person is unlikely to record rides on strava (or even know what it is). But they make up the majority of urban commuters.
This is beyond useless for me. It’s far more of an achievement to go and find a different route every time you go out rather than endlessly slog up and down the same ones.
Maybe achievements for the number of different segments you rode in a 90 day window would be more appropriate?
If anything this will encourage me to flag more of my rides as private. I’m sure that’s not what Strava want.
Maybe it’s a gimmick to get the commuters to start saving rides?
How about some negative reinforcement? If you ride a segment some specified percentage below the KOM/QOM you get poop emojis next to those segments.
It could be a ‘reverse’ KOM - most time spent on that segment! So, you are rewarded for riding slowly. You could get the Local Legend status simply by riding that segment at 1km/h!
