contrast that to TR and how the handle the whole legacy pricing situation…
I was ok with paying for Strava and would probably be ok at whatever increased price I would end up paying- with 2 kids now, I don’t race as much as I used to so segments are my primary measure of improvement. But I’m not ok with shady business practices, so I’ll go ahead and cancel and go back to the old school method of starting my Garmin in the driveway and trying to make it back in an hour.
It might well also be to do with the way that you subscribed. I have clearly subscribed and pay through the mobile app because I dont get the option to see my reciepts but I do have " Manage your subscription in Google Play". Hilariously, when I click through that link it says that I will renew for £47.99 but if I log into the app it says its going to be £54.99.
I dumped Strava a few years ago, and yet they still send me 1000 emails asking me to re-subscribe.
Thank you @dcrainmaker for proving that once again… even a 900-pound gorilla can’t avoid stepping in all the other sh%$t on the jungle floor.
It should be going up to £4.58pcm based on a annual fee of £54.99
The price of the company’s subscription service, which provides users with additional features unavailable on the app’s free version, such as route planning, segment competition, effort analysis, and a training dashboard, has now increased for monthly subscribers from £6.99 to £8.99 for 2023 – a jump of over 28 percent – while the annual subscription has risen from £47.99 to £54.99.

Thanks for the exposure on this business from Ray and his video. I agree with many of you and wanted to support Strava, but this new huge price increase without telling customers is not right. Come July I’ll be canceling premium and switching back to free.
For USA users it will be $79.99 per year.
If you have an iPhone and paid via using your Apple ID the new price is already live
I so happened to hit the unsubscribe button when I saw its renewal price
My annual renewal showed up in my Apple subscriptions at $99.99.
I canceled immediately. Pretty sure last year it was $60 and I thought even that was borderline too much for what I was getting.
My subscription is due on February 23.
I have been a paying member for 8 years and for $60 it was like a no brainer…
I do like what they offer, but i can get the same or better data from other places.
Plus I dont like the lack of transparency
I am 100% on board with what your saying, at $59.99 it was a no-brainer - I mainly kept the subscription for the course finder when I traveled. I stopped traveling and really could care less about segments anymore (2-kiddos now).
I do run a 500-member club on strava that has a weekly group ride with anywhere from 60-80 people, I really hope it doesn’t kill any admin powers I have there (I don’t think it will) because I post 4 different routes and set up 4 different rides for different abilities.
If you pay via apple, you have to get the receipts from them. This is the case for me, might be similar for you if you can’t see the receipts on strava.
Not directly tied to the price increase, but a Strava question: Does anyone know how to get the exact time stamps (start & finish time stamps) for a Strava segment from a ride?
Here’s what I see…
What are they hiding from me!!! /s
I’ve apparently been using paypal so maybe that’s the issue.
In the video, Ray referenced an email that said pricing will be final in February. So I’m guessing everyone will be on the same pricing (in their respective regions), but they’re still updating the autobill amounts.
I can’t get over the mess they’ve made with the prices in the EU. I can sort of see why they might want to charge more in Germany than in Spain, because that’s the same with a lot of things, but I really don’t understand how two countries can have the same monthly, but a different annual price, or the other way round.
Luckily I’ve never paid for strava and don’t feel like I’m missing anything either. If anything, I can see me leaving the platform sometime in the not too distant future. I like to see other people’s rides in nice places for motivation, but now my timeline is filled with Zwift and indoor workouts, or various random activities (yoga, strength, etc).
I think, emphasis on I think, as this is pretty confusing but I’m in the same boat as you. Our renewal dates are too far out right now so we still see $59.99 but I believe when it gets closer (within 30 days of renewal?) it’ll show $79.99 as the renewal price.
Yep, I pay via apple and don’t see anything either. I checked my apple subscriptions and I saw an option to renew for $79. Guess that means I’m going from $59 to $79 when I’m up for renewal in Aug.
Yeah mine shows renewal at $79 going forward, used to be $59. Luckily I don’t renew until August. Not sure it is worth that to me…might just go back to the free membership.
Cancelled. It’s not the money. I just hate being dicked around by companies who act like the customer is disposable.
In the leaderboard thread about a month ago, I wrote:
At a high level, I’ve always felt Strava never knew how to monetize. Instead of adding in awesome features that people wanted to pay more for, they just start charging for more and more things they used to give for free.
Yup.
