Tacx Neo Smart Bike (dedicated bike)

Well hopefully they can at least fix some flaws by sourcing better parts. For example, the belt!

@ericallenboyd I have a 2nd bike on the Neo. Mainly it’s the quick adjustability that I want. A single bike that my wife and I can use vs swapping bikes on the trainer. Maybe 2021. We shall see!.

Makes sense and that would be nice for sure.

As written few posts above, I have received a new belt to replace my broken one, and this model seems more solid (no signs of glue and sewing). Then there is hope that this issue might be solved. I will see in the next months if it is the case.

I am a new member here since yesterday and very grateful for all the input for the problem of a snapping belt and needed belt replacement.
I got my Neo Smart Bike 2019.09.18 and did 5883 Km and climbing 71.440 M. The Problem is new since using watts > 600 for sprints.
Also to @cs73 for the detailed description and picture of needed tools for replacement.
Just want to complete with a YouTube video “How to change the belt on a Tacx Neo Bike Smart” How to change the belt on a Tacx Neo Bike Smart - YouTube
Instead of shipping a new bike, i offered to Garmin Germany this morning by mail, to send me the tools for replacement, otherwise replacement and send the old one back even with a deposit.
I will post the Ongoing

I have had the Neo Bike now since June, and i have noticed that in ERG mode it is still bouncing pretty wild at times, but on avg i would say im 5 watts under target. Did this issue ever get fixed from Tacx? I am runing the most updated version according to the app, I notice this alot more when i get into threshold and higher watts, low watts, or endurance rides it seems to hold a little more consistent.

Are you on .40? If so, its pretty consistent for me above 150w but its consistently low by a few watts as you mentioned. I just bump the workout target up by 1-2% to compensate and it’s not a big deal.

Same here. Fixed (mostly) after the update. I still don’t understand why my first gen Neo holds the power more accurately than my year old Neo Bike, but it’s an easy fix, so whatever…

yes im on .40 mine is almost the complete opposite. I had an endurace ride today and it was consisently 3-5 watts low, which im not that worried about that. But the swings i get when i do an over under work out when it goes to the minute or 2 over, i have seen 20 watt swings, to the point that i have debated switcing it over to resistance instead of ERG. but i prefer ERG.

So by bumping the target range up to 102% that would be better? I also notice i ride naturally with a little higher cadence. when I’m up at threshold im usually spinning 96-100 rpm, and my endurance rides are usually lower , 90-95 RPM. And if i lift my cadence to try and get the watts higher above 100 RPM it really starts jumping. Also, i have messed with the gearing to see if it would be more compliant, but it doesn’t seem to matter if I have it set on the artificial big ring or small ring on the front.

You shouldn’t be getting that large of swings on .40

So I have a question for all you owners.

Considering your own experience, would you buy the Neo Bike today or look at Wahoo/Stages instead?

Depends on what is closest to you from a warranty handling perspective.

When it’s working, the Neo is awesome. I’ve definitely gotten my money’s worth out of the bike even after a little more than a year.

The Stages seems sturdier though but has its own downsides from what I’m aware of.

If you can wait for V2 of either, you’d be wise to do so.

Kinda sucks to be an early adopter sometimes. Question is when will v2 debut. Aren’t the smart bikes and many trainers backordered as is due to Covid? Anyway, I so want one, but I’ll wait for v2.

I recently sold my Neo (trainer) for almost as much as I payed for it brand new so I’m currently restricted to riding outdoors or on rollers. Which is fine seeing there’s no real season in sight for quite some time. So I’ll wait for V2. I’m located in Sweden so no real worries with Garmin support. I’ve only had great encounters with them. My question is also in regards to Garmin not being able to supply any bikes or really scarce supply all 2020 which had me worried that there was problems with them.

Just took the plunge and ordered one. So now V2 will probably get here and be extremely more well-built and greater in all aspects.

I’m so sick of this weather, raining and being below 15°C in May, is horrendous. I feel like I washed my bike more than I rode it these past 8 months. :frowning:

At the very least, you are getting a new tensioner location design and hopefully a different crank length attachment method (new version has the Wahoo bike style claw) so hopefully it works out for you.

I had mine replaced under warranty and so far so good.

It’s a great unit when its running and it’s been well worth the money.

You sure about that? Have they replaced all coming out now or what? Sounds great. I had the Neo (T2800) for 2,5 years and put a lot of miles into it and it was my go-to device for power and indoor training. Fantastic product with zero issues.

I’m in a facebook group and people who have ordered recently or gotten warranty replacements have cracked the units open to peek inside.

I muted all FB-groups for trainers. The Wahoo-group was the worst. Soooo many issues daily.

However. Thanks a lot for the information! I hope that I get the new version because the crank looks way better than the other fiddly part.

i replaced my Neo2 with a Neo Bike, all is fine, but my left/right Balance is extremly different, that is not normal, with my Vector3 i have almost the time a 50/50% balance,

any ideas?

i don’t use Vector 3 on Neobike, i have normal pedals!

the balance from the bike is fake, just ignore it
