Your mechanic hates that plug because it’s literally one of the worst.
It works though but sucks otherwise.

Most times I haven’t had issues with play in the headset. But I did have to stop mid ride once to tighten it.
When I get new fork I’ll definitely have the mechanic put in a different plug.
riding with loose headset on a carbon steerer fork is also a recipe for steerer damage.

Fortunately for me in that instance it wasn’t very loose and I did notice it about 5 minutes into the ride.
