Nice! Just what you want to see.
I was looking over the workouts for the Zwift Tri Academy and I think they are…welll…not the greatest. I know D. Plews, who has a good reputation as a coach and athlete, created them but I do not find them that stimulating, progressive, or actually effective in isolation as they are structured. The run workouts look decent and fairly traditional but once again comletely neglect progression. I guess Zwift is mostly looking at the races rather than the workouts for finding the diamonds in the proverbial rough.
Just my two watts.
Zwift workouts in general for me are meh and I am not a fan of the way they are presented vs what TR does. I do however like zwift for group rides and steady state rides or even in the background while doing a TR workout.
I’m using Zwift for indoor running, their half Mara plan has their long runs at tempo pace for some reason, so I’m modifying that.
I bought a spare turbo and Apple TV 4K for my son to use Zwift after he tried it on my setup, but he hasn’t used it at all, so I’m thinking about having Zwift as an optional “unstructured ride” at weekends.
I acknowledge there are real training benefits to group training too, which TR isn’t focussed on. I half heartedly suggested we find some social medium for the 2019 IMs to do the FD long rides together, but didn’t get it off the ground. I think zwift is the default for that sort of thing now - like maybe a monthly Sunday morning “Cumberland” or “Long Fellow” on Zwift.
I would be for a TR workout via zwift on weekends.
Ended up buying a kiwami spider ld one via the bf deal. Looking forward to it.
I’m sure you’ll love it. Andre is always great to work with and truly supports the sport.
I really wish they had the black/red combo in my size L but had to settle for the white/black. I emailed to see if they can switch just in case they can as I don’t need it Immediately.
I’m sure Andre will do what he can. He’s awesome. Also, he does printing if you need anything on it.
Might as well ask. If not no worries.
Thanks again and the training is going well so far. Need to start swimming in Dec but the running/cycling consistent.
Yet again another week of starting sweet spot base marred with illness
I had to have 2 weeks out with a chest infection. So I just started again from the beginning when I came back
Which time zone are you in?
I’m off the bike at the moment while I’m getting over a chest infection but might take the time to see how set this kind of thing up - have you done it before?
Given we’re not allowed to upload TR workouts into Zwift I’m thinking the challenge would be getting everyone riding the same w/kg during say Cumberland.
I’ve been watching YouTube on the new Rouvy AR which might fit better, it allows you to alter the “reality level” so you’re matching riders speed as it suits your effort.
@JoeX I am in the eastern time zone or Atlanta. I just got back on zwift for a month to try it out again and I run TR on one screen and zwift on another while TR controls my trainer.
There is a meetup feature which essentially is a private group ride where you start together and follow the same route. If all of us are doing the same TR workout (or not honestly) on another screen and using zwift as background we can be relatively in the same location depending on your ftp.
You need to be someones follower to send them an invite so this is step 1 to getting this started. Mine is Eric Boyd - TR - ATL
If you do a “meetup” as @ericallenboyd mentions, there is an option to “keep everyone together”. As long as the person who sets up the meetup enables this option, the group ride should be a no drop ride. Regardless of each riders power output, all riders will stay grouped together. I think the only way to get dropped is to stop pedaling. I could be doing 2w/kg while you might be doing 5w/kg and we would still stay together.
And no need to upload TR workouts to Zwift. I often run both simultaneously on the same device or on separate devices.
Ahah - great, that sorts it then.
I just completed IMAZ19 and signed up for it again. Bike & nutrition went per plan at IF of 0.72 with slightly negative splits on 2nd and 3rd loop (166W, 170, 172W) so for 2020 I just want to bump that FTP up + increase run mileage.
While I’ll do a base block in '20, that doesn’t sound appealing right now. I’m thinking about doing Sustained Power Build after a week break. Anyone has good/bad experience mixing and matching Build & Base blocks after an IM?
Nice about the meetup settings. Had no idea about the specifics which is cool you can do that.
Well as I had been alluding a bit in the 2019 thread, looks like the Xterra series in the states is going through a massive facelift. A bunch of Xterra branded races have eschewed the main brand and are doing their own thing, so now winning your region through point races is no longer an option. There are only three races in the US with qualifying spots. There will be no Maui attempt this year. Then it looks like there are rumors that Xterra might not be having world champs at Maui after 2020. So outside of a few off-road races here and there it looks like I’ll be moving towards more and more non-draft legal racing.
Depending on how the America tour ends up, we’ll see if I start to pepper in some 70.3’s during the seasons. Blue Ridge would be a good race for 2021, and who knows, savageman might be an annual thing by then for me, as I will be doing it again in 2020. I’ve got relatives in Chattanooga as well, so might give that a look. I guess I might want to get serious about buying a bike…
Chatty 70.3 sells out each year well before the race and is on the last tier at $350. I did it in 2018 and a great race and venue.
