Sorry to hear about the crash. wishing you a speedy and full recovery!

Hoping for a speedy recovery. My thoughts and prayers to the motto

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

That was a scary video. Glad you’re alive and hopefully the broken back is nothing serious.

Get well soon bud. If you need anything let me know, I’m close by.

A whole day has passed so I think it’s appropriate to ask if the bike is okay now?

And, good swim :+1:

Too early for jokes?

I am sorry that you had to go through this, @tomagone. Wishes for a speedy recovery!

The swim was okay, 59 mins so 2-3 mins slower than ideal, mostly down to arriving at the corral late and having to snake round the slower people.

I’ve not seen the bike, but apparently it’s fucked :sob: Going to see if I can salvage the di2 groupset for my road bike and try and get ironman to replace the bike with something shiny and new!

I’m so sorry to hear about this, but glad you seem to be in good spirits in spite of the circumstances.

IM should be liable for a whole lot more than a bike if what I’ve heard is true. It sounds like a whole lot of negligence from an official race vehicle.

I think you should get more than one bike. It was a tragic accident for you and the person who died, but I feel that someone other that the athlete competing is at fault here. Not sure if the organizers or the media crew, but they knew that stretch was narrow, and maybe not having a fucking motorcycle go against traffic would have been a better choice. In the good ole’ USA we would lawyer up for this one. I dont think waivers covers negligence.

maybe get two bike with brand new 12 speed DA. One road one tri. Also get ALL your medical and recovery costs covered. They have insurance for a reason.

I’m totally ignorant of the German health care system. If there are medical expenses, there is likely supplemental insurance provided by your annual or one-day license w/ the triathlon governing body that may cover some or all of your out of pocket expenses.

Were this in the USA…
A USAT membership would cover at least a portion your out of pocket health care expenses (if not all) and an injury lawyer would be able to obtain some kind of settlement for the very hard to define “pain and suffering”, lost property and potentially lost wages, if you went that route.

Your health insurance company would also like to sue IM, but only on their own behalf in a attempt to recover their expenses.

I think the EHIC transfers all hospital costs to the NHS over in the UK.

Travel insurance would cover the transfer back to the UK when you’re ready, and most out of pocket expenses.

Maybe your BTF membership if you have it.

Whatever the mechanism, money is unlikely to be a significant problem I would expect - completely unlike the USA.

In the US, an accident like this might end someone financially… sad

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Such a terrible incident- so sorry it happened.

From what I’ve heard/understood at the mo is my GHIC (global health insurance card, replacing the old IHIC) should cover the medical expenses and Ironman have been in contact with my family offering to cover any further expenses (i.e travel).
