Yeah right at it. Here’s the route: https://strava.app.link/jTYe7qgHZnb
So, during this training block you would not do a ramp test? I want to make sure I’m reading that correctly. If I am, it makes sense. How long did you go without testing? I’m 5 months out and that seems like a long time not to test.
Well, I have chronic tendonitis(“golfers elbow”) and a partial torn UCL in my elbow. Can’t ride outside till 1st of June, if all goes well. So, I’ll be training for this totally inside and on the trainer till then. I will only have a month and a half to get some real long rides in and get my body used to being on trails again. Not idea for what will be the hardest day ever on a bike for me. Oh well, lean into to it I guess.
@smlring true I think. My guess is lots of volume with Z2 rides but also long tempo and long SST rides? If you want to ride 5hours at 0.85 for total duration, you need to train that duration in my opinion. Correct?
I think I gonna follow such an approach for my 8hr ride in the Alpes this year (5hour of total climbing (4 climbs). Start a Sweetspot progression and try to work to 2hours. And also some longer tempo rides. And Z2 as much as possible.
Sometimes outside on big gear for climb simulating but also on zwift (ventop, alpe). But indoor my FTP is 20W lower so need to keep in my mind…
On these long efforts, SS, Tempo or endurance, can I set it at a certain wattage and zone out for and hour and half or should it vary from upper, middle and upper part of the zone throughout the interval? What is more beneficial?
Whatever motivates you? Long sweet spot efforts are mentally challenging.
What motivates me is going outside and doing these freestyle and not worrying about hitting exact targets.
Found my 2016 screen grabs of the GCN video:
Back in 2016 I was new to cycling and just did what I could, was never able to do 3x8-min above threshold but still developed great fatigue resistance and ability to repeatedly go over threshold.
Thanks. I might rotate one of these in the week along with the longer SS. I agree long SS aren’t fun, so I might can only stomach one a week and these would be a good supplement.
