Some interesting stuff here:
Not surprisingly, they never mentioned swift in this podcast. Very interesting interesting that the focus seems to be on racing and the accuracy and verifications associated with having a high-quality port system. I still can’t help but thinking that TP acquired IndieVelo primarily to compete with Zwift, though.
Is there anyone saying that isn’t why? I can’t think of any other reason you would.
Ditto, no need to mention the elephant in the room because the tangential goal is apparent & obvious.
This is aimed at Zwift but probably more indirectly then just getting random individuals to switch platforms. TP’s main market is coaches and training plan sellers. Giving those folks an included virtual cycling space for clients has to make the coaches and plan sellers really happy. Virtual will provide coaches with more tools and for folks selling plans on TP it should help sales since the workout platform is now integrated right into TrainingPeaks.
I think the rest of us just get to come along for the ride.
Love to see people “doing things properly”, so I’ve maximum respect for George.
TrainingPeaks has seriously lucked out getting someone of his calibre and productivity(!) on-board.
I hope this is the case. I use TP as my central repository of all fitness activities, but the analysis tools are significantly lacking compared to intervals.icu. Been debating for a while whether I should shift to Intervals. I’ve had a paid TP account for years, mainly for scheduling activities, but TPV may be enough to keep me around another year - it’s a nice change from Zwift …
Anyone else having difficulty using TP Virtual and TR together? I can run Zwift and TR concurrently without problems, but can’t seem to get my Wahoo Trickr X HRM to connect to TPV and TR.
I am using a MacBook Pro with the built-in Bluetooth and an Ant+ dongle. If I load TR first it connects to the trainer and HRM via both Bluetooth and Ant; TPV then can’t find the HRM. If I load TPV first then it connects to everything via Bluetooth and Ant+, and TR doesn’t see the HRM.
I’m pretty sure the Tickr X (first gen) has only one Bluetooth connection, and that once one of the two programs uses the Ant+ connection it blocks out the other. Is there a way to turn off Bluetooth or Ant+ completely in either TR or TPV?
Thanks!
Using TR and Zwift I’ve found better to load Zwift first and connect everything first by ant+ (inside the icon you get both
options just press ant+) except trainer resistance that I leave disconnected. Only with watopia loaded I launch TR and select only trainer and HR by bluetooth.
If TPV lets you choose like Zwift try doing this way.
Thanks. When using Zwift I definitely load it first, then TR. TPV and TR both seem to ‘hog’ bluetooth and Ant+, not letting the other use it. I’ll keep trying.
I have this problem whenever I try to dual record with my Garmin head unit. No matter which other software I’m running, the behavior of my Neo gets really weird and I suspect it’s the Garmin “fighting” for the signal…which is a real problem, because you can only do workouts in Erg when the Garmin is in control and I am trying to not use Erg.
Hope you find a fix!
For dual recording, I use a profile that has trainer control disabled. That eliminates the potential for fighting for control between it and another app (Rouvy in my case). It does ask to add a smart trainer when I use it but that’s one touch to dismiss.
I was wondering about doing that. How’d you do set that up in a profile where it ignores taking control.
I am using a 1030 Plus
After you set up your profile the way you want, (menu - Activity - Create New) you can go into that profile, bring up Sensors from the menu, select trainer control and disable. I may be wrong but I think it is specific to the profile and not global disable. I only use my 1040 to record, not control, so I never run into issues.
Must be specific to the 1040. I don’t see that option on the 1030 to control connections within a given profile
There’s also a real possibility I am wrong, and I am globally disabling trainer control for all activity profiles.
Edit: I just checked and I was incorrect. Unfortunately on the 1040, the sensor enable/disable is across all profiles.
I dual record on my 830. I have a PM on my bike, so I have never paired the trainer to the Garmin. Zwift / TPV record power from the trainer but do not control it. TR controls the trainer and records its power. Garmin records power from the PM on the bike. That way I can compare trainer and PM power to ensure they aren’t drifting too far apart. Hope that helps.
I do that too. Rouvy or TP Virtual control the trainer. Garmin records the ride with HRV logging enabled for use by AI Endurance.
The question was about specifying sensors by profile. It appears that is not possible
Hopped on TrainingPeaks Virtual today….was doing a prescribed workout, so can’t comment on pack dynamics, riding with others, etc.
Overall, it was fine. Always strange starting a new platform and you aren’t familiar with all the details. Graphics are OK, but I don’t see them as substantially “better” than Zwift.
It was nice having my TP workout automatically available in TPV….no need to faff about with two devices / programs. Irony was that I still had Zwift going on my iPad as if I was doing a TR workout. I’m too close to 100 to be willing to sacrifice any ride time and not get my XP.
I’ve had this conversation before with other people comparing Zwift to its competitors. It’s a really odd thing to me that one person’s “great graphics” are another person’s “meh”. I think Zwift looks far better than its competitors. Not enough to pay for it when the competition is free, but definitely prefer. Other people will say Zwift looks absolutely terrible and they prefer “X”, which I think looks meh. Not a judgement, just more an observation on how we’re all different. “Different strokes for different folks”.
