y’all are blowing my mind.
Can I finally take down my drying rack that has made itself a permanent piece of furniture.
And deny guests / passers-by the pleasure of seeing your inside-out bibs hanging in their beautiful glory? Not on your life
Our drying rack folds up and hides behind the dryer and sink!
I bought a used 1 piece tri race suit, was used for something like 2 training rides and they didn’t like how the arms bunched up or something like that. It was in season so no one had stock and it was like half the price of new. Seemed a little weird but showed up clean and worked.
I’ll admit to occasionally drying some cycling kit by accident and it survived just fine.
Some notes based on previous posts:
Use low temp dry for all your clothes except towels and jeans. Our dryer seem to actually cook on the highest setting.
I have some perfectly good looking Assos bibs that seem to have lost their comfort after a couple of years. I’m guessing that the chamois has gotten compressed even though it doesn’t look it.
Funk or smell: use Borax. It will take out any accumulated smell and not harm clothes or bleach them.
White or light colored kit turning yellow from sunscreen - I’ve never found a solution for this.
Ha
So now I have to ask - how old are your underpants?
That is some kind of witchcraft there,
I “took control” of my life (ie clothes washing) a few years back now. Weekly, one load for whites, one for coloureds, one for sports on synthetic setting with non-bio detergent. Done. Oh and a wool wash every so often.
I often work out twice a day, shower twice a day, and my clothes have never smelled. One pair of thermal long bibs goes back to 2016.
Dude, I don’t make the rules, just follow them. I do most of the laundry, and like the rest of our lives it’s commingled. Happy wife, happy life!
I’ve had kit that’s been washed at 40deg C and it has stuck together when I’ve forgotten to lower the temperature. Touchwood washing at 30deg C has never done that. I think washing at 30deg C is better for the environment anyway and all my clothes are washed at that now. Lol, even if its not it’s just means that I don’t have to remember to turn it down
I wash my bib shorts in a cold wash with the rest of my darks and then hang dry.
I’ve purchased used bibs. Yes, someone else’s tushie touched the pad. But I washed it before wearing it.
Assos bibs are pricey, and you can buy them for ½ off used…
This 100%. I’ve seen plenty of sports gear melted to the drum over the years.
Personally, the only cycling gear of mine that has failed in the last few years has been due to my wife cooking it in the drier.
If I’m in a hurry to dry something I’ll stick it on low heat and spin them with a dry towel. Otherwise, it’s air dry all the way.
Acidic water don’t break down plastics or synthetics, but UV sunlight does.
No danger of that in Northern England.
I always hang dry my cycling clothing, but I have transitioned to hang drying most of my clothes. I have slowly replaced a large amount of my wardrobe with wool clothing so I can’t use the dryer.
I suppose in a pinch I would toss them in the dryer on a super low or no heat setting. However, I accidentally dried a paper thin jersey one time and it melted off the silicone patches that helped keep the sleeves down, whoops.
I agree. My Rapha, Assos, CCN bibs survive through washing and dyring machines just fine.
The only thing I don’t put in the dryer is my gabba, to protect the “waterproofness”, but even that gets machine washed.
No problems so far.
I only wash at 30deg C but touch wood I’ve had no problems with my Gabbas in the machine. After the logos and reflective started coming off a pair of Castelli bibs, I’ve started turning the Gabba inside out before washing but I doubt it’s really needed; it never seemed to damage them when it wasn’t done for circa 2 years.
Look away… look away people… shudders
